Hearing hes getting the bag and all the amenities that come with it.

Brad and co. understood how important this was, not just getting a + PG, but the optics of if he did indeed commit to a place like Utah for less money would be a major blow to the sack.

Unfortunately, RayJ camp knew how desperate we were as well…honestly, im not sure how legit the smoke was from the last couple days. Seems like we are going to get a PG that can set one hell of a screen.
IF RayJ does come, I have a bad feeling about it. He and his "advisors" have turned up the heat on our staff and made them look like dancing chickens at a circus side show. Doesn't seem to fit into the type of players we've picked up this year, and kept from last. (Domask, DD, TR, LG,) Hoping they don't ruin team chemistry again this year by putting to much stock into one entitled PG. ( Yes, I know we need a PG)

Ok..ok…

Is this really the he’ll take visits and scare the 💩 out of us just all while being secretly committed???

Like Indy, 0440, Lville, DB, etc. all said he’s a lock. That he will go through the process just to make it look legit….

Are we all getting played? Is this the play? My only complaint would be why UTAH???

Like why play games and get everyone in a bunch over UTAH of all places???

Been following this for weeks. A month ago I was really hoping RayJ would come to Illnois. At this point I would prefer that we get a different point guard, who wants to play for Illinois. It doesn't appear that he does. In my opinion Illinois is too good to have to beg a kid to play here. Team dynamics are important and if he is only coming to collect a check, I think we are better off with someone who will consider it a privilege to play on a great team (of course, getting paid a good amount to do so). Frustrating!

If he ends up here, he better be real good. All I'm sayin'
Agree! And say that if the #s mentioned were close and they ponied up with more then I'd be led to believe the back up plans weren't that great or they'd have just went with 1 of them.. So, this kid better be ready to live up to the hype. He may be getting more $ but he also increased the pressure on himself to deliver!

I get as fans it is frustrating, but this is the new reality of high major college basketball with the portal and NIL. It is basically all free-agents and negotiations for the good players. I too will miss the 4-year guys that "want to be here", but that is not how it is now in most cases. I am glad our staff gets that and has adjusted to the new reality it seems. Get used to huge turnover every year and drama around transfers.

And if it was your son, you would have advised him, "Son, take less. I know there's another couple hundred grand sitting there. But you should take whatever they want to give you. Those millionaire donors can use the money to buy another boat they don't need."

It’s a business decision for both the Illini staff and RayJ and his team…

Maximize your outcome when you can. Who knows what the future holds.

Of available options, from a talent standpoint, RayJ seems to be the best target. Better go out swinging!

For RayJ, he’ll play his butt off in an attempt to get to his dream of the NBA. He won’t risk that. Make as much as you can whether it be at Illinois, Utah, Baylor, etc.

Knowing how important next year could be and how good the team could be, it’s worth the risk. It’s 1 year with a handful of guys with NBA aspirations. They’ll do what they can to get there. If it fails for the Illini, so be it. They’re attempting to put the best team on the floor they can. I agree with it.

Lastly, IF it works, I suspect the long term reward is even greater.

Go Illini

Sounds great, as long as [bolded above] correlates very highly with [in an attempt to win games for the Illini]. Often last season we seemed to have guys who were trying to accomplish the first bolded statement but it had little to do with the second.

I guess that's Brad and the staff's responsiblity to make sure they align.
