Unfortunately, RayJ camp knew how desperate we were as well…honestly, im not sure how legit the smoke was from the last couple days. Seems like we are going to get a PG that can set one hell of a screen.

If one can use Utah as a smoke screen as effective as this, I have to say the portal NIL recruitment really sucks. It is just miserable. I prefer we can still develop players internally at key positions.

I too will miss the 4-year guys that "want to be here", but that is not how it is now in most cases. I am glad our staff gets that and has adjusted to the new reality it seems. I can adjust to not having 4 year players and knowing the players are professional athletes who have expectations of performance

But I don’t think any college staff has truly figured out this new landscape. Players have the upper hand

I think you will soon see multi year or performance based NIl deals. That way players can’t quit mid season

Also colleges need a GM type of position to help with understanding the budget and business. There are very few people who are elite at X and O evaluating talent recruiting/convincing players to stay

I understand the frustration that Illinois is in the a position of needing a PG so badly that we have no leverage.
And this situation ultimately does falls at Brads feet.
However, it isn't like Brad and Company haven't been trying to get a good point guard in here every year.
Unfortunately for our program, keeping them around has been an issue. So here we are.

Tbh the moral of the story is you can't get desperate at a certain position. Players now have leverage and will be able to use.

We got desperate at PG and now RayJ is using his leverage, that's life. Hopefully this is a one time thing going forward. It's nice to have a pipeline.

It was all a ruse. He was never actually playing Brad, he just wanted to play Loyalty. Sure a bag is nice but a good practical joke is priceless.
