been reading a lot of nationwide pundits thinking the Cardinals should trade Flaherty AND Montgomery this year..........I say no way because that's taking the best SP's out of a morbid rotation.......haven't read anything about what it would take to re-sign either one or if they would even stay with the Cardinals........................

Flaherty looks great tonight , like the Jack of old............lot of movement on his heater and a real tight slider..............
Agree with your take

Will say if they don't trade either/both before the offseason and they hit free agency they are both likely gone. Flaherty will sign elsewhere and someone needing a lefty will overpay for Montgomery. If it comes down to keeping one I think they should trade Flaherty and try to re-sign Montgomery. Montgomery is the only proven quality lefty we have right now. Not saying we are loaded at really any pitching spot but still

It is probably just me, but I don’t see it with Liberatore. You usually can see some flashes in young pitchers, but I don’t. The 5 innings against the Mets this year and a few last year is about it. I’m leery when certain teams(Rays) give up players, “highly rated” ones, for relatively nothing. Jose Martinez was fun and did we really know what we had in Arozarena? Tampa did. Bummer year and this could make you all even more depressed, but we could realistically have an outfield of Luis Robert, Adonis Garcia, and Randy Arozarena. Ooof!
Fanbase is really going to lose it this year if D-Backs pitcher Zac Gallen wins the NL CY Young Award and would be back to back years we traded CY Young guys off in the same trade. Hoping it doesn't happen but noticed this way too early in the season..........

It is so mind boggling with how we find talent, dont see it thru. Sandy and Gallen for Ozuna! Wow! I think we gave up 4 total players for Marcel.

We have some pitchers in the minors, but our pitching ranks in most all affiliates are in the toilet. Tink just now made it AA. Such a bummer, because we have a championship offense.

Yep....

Pitching is way too expensive and you have to develop(and keep) a few guys. Having both those guys under contract for years sure would have helped. Zac Gallen is only in year 1 of 3 in arbitration now making $5.6 million and they could try to look him up long term. Sandy Alcantara made under $4 million during his Cy Young year last season in year 1 of Arbitration. Marlins locked him up for 5 years/$56 million and last year of deal is club option.

It's a quote from Bill DeWitt Jr circa 2018 after firing Matheny before the All-Star break:

“In some places a winning record, or even .500, is even acceptable. Not with this city, not with this franchise, not with its history, and not with the fans."
I saw that same quote recently.

Based on his various comments, along with his personality, I will be surprised if Flaherty signs with the Cardinals. I wonder if it would be better to trade him and get something for him rather than just letting him walk?
This is the issue with both Flaherty and Montgomery. Scott Boras is Montgomery's agent. I have read speculation that Montgomery "might" be open to an extension.

I am not sure about the timeline, but the front office had other ideas about the outfield. They moved pieces to open the way for the dream outfield of O'neal, Bader, and Carlson.

Cardinals vs. White Sox...

And so, a weekend series that could have provided some real hardball meaning and excitement will instead be a exercise in fan frustration and futility and players going through the motions. Two teams having a really bad year going at it for little reason other than players earning a paycheck.

Two great baseball cities. Two legacy franchises with great history. Two cities hungry for success. What could have been a special baseball series. But not right now. Not this year. But when?

It’s pretty sad when a weekend series in early July is played between two teams with no hope of making the playoffs and so much baseball yet to be played for a couple months. Lots of getting on planes and hotel rooms and looking in the mirror and wondering what has happened to our ball club and how do we ever find our way back.

It’s a sad time for Cardinals and White Sox fans. The Cardinals are used to having success. For the Sox, success is usually a rare occasion. But the fans of both franchises are top-rate. If only the ball clubs were as special and caring as the fans.

And from somewhere up in the Sky, Harry Caray looks down with a scowl and shakes his head. Two ball clubs he used to broadcast both soiling great traditions.

And instead of saying, ‘HOLY COW!’... he mutters a different kind of ‘Holy XXXX!’ while he watches this spectacle from the really High Seats.

The Cardinals FO needs to open up the checkbook for Montgomery..........JMHO

Never too early to look ahead. This upcoming pitching FA class is strong, the year following is loaded. I'd like to have Monty, but need him to sign sooner than later, if not we have to get something for him and then try and give the bag. I hate talking this way, because deep down I feel we can get back this year. I hate giving up, it isn't in my DNA.

I think I have seen how this game is gonna end....I hate to be so pessimistic , but this Cardinals team is just not playing up to their abilities OR they are just not very good........jury still out and we may get the answers getting closer to the trade deadline.......

What a joke.

Edit - I’m just so frustrated with fumbling the leads in the most spectacular/infuriating ways. The dropped ball at second, the Arenado double play attempt, hit by pitch. Just make the game simpler guys

Pallante , Romero , and others are NOT MLB worthy right now........This team is not very good at all............why do I put myself through this crap ??

How do the cheap arse Marlins trot out quality reliever's and we don't have a clue ...........
