I'd like to think any coach could have satisfied stability and facilities. Stability because there was no requirement to win and facilities because that was JW and had little to do with who was coach. He did have name recognition, but it didn't benefit us in any tangible way as shown by his recruiting.

If the previous two coaches didn't convince that by no mean could any coach have provided stability.
Also, have you done a lot of fund raising without being able to paint a vision for the future worth investing in? Donations come with expectations, like it or not, so promoting Lovie's son to HC wouldn't have opened any wallets. It matters who the coach is.
At the time, hiring Lovie looked like we were punching above our weight, and that was vital to pitching a vision donors could believe in. I sure did. And I'll always view it as a missed opportunity.
Thankfully JW has replaced Lovie with someone who can actually fulfill the vision. Coach B is building the program I've always wanted. But he's off to a hot start because of players like who just got drafted. There was talent here to build with.
