Gotta love the swirly font. Looks like a late 70s album cover. For the youths...albums were how we used to listen to analog music, on a playback device called a turntable, at 33-1/3 rpm. (Turntables and rpm to be explained in a later thread.)

I Remember when Ohio State came to town with Archie Griffin and Mike Bass started the scoring out with a field goal. Needless to say, we did not score after that. It was pretty ugly.

Sansui 350a receiver with (smaller) Advent bookshelf speakers. Purchased at Diener (sp) Stereo on w. Springfield.
Also had a cassette deck with an external track mechanism to flip the cassette to the other side..cassette actually left the deck and ran up this track where it was flipped over before returning to the capsule. Never worked that flawlessly though.

Lucky! I hate to say it, but when you watch highlights on YouTube ... 2007 was the last time Memorial Stadium really rocked. The PSU, Wisconsin and (especially) Michigan games were just electric, at least from TV. And that refutes two "myths" about why our stadium just isn't loud lately:
1. That we simply don't have enough fans in the stands. Due to renovations, the max capacity in 2007 was 57k - a number we more or less hit for the MSU game last year, which was actually one of our more quiet crowds.
2. That the location of the students prevents the stadium from getting loud. 2007 was the first year where the students were in the NEZ, and they were loud!
Don't get me wrong, I want the students back in East Main yesterday, as I DO think it negatively affects the stadium atmosphere. I also think the more fans you get into the seats, the louder it will be. However, I think our issues in recent years are that a lot of our fans react to what's happening on the field rather than try to influence what happens on the field. That might sound crazy to complain about, but it's not how fans at PSU, OSU, Iowa, etc. behave; they are standing and yelling on big third downs, they have regular chants, there is just a sort of "buzz" at all times, etc. Hell, it's not even how our basketball fans behave - they are way more active and less reactive! I get that this NATURALLY comes with more wins and better teams to watch, but I think there are indeed little things we can do to achieve marginal but essential improvement BEFORE we get those wins, too.
I'm old enough to remember when we used to own these rodents, so losing to them so consistently is an egregious violation of the rightful order of things
Illinois vs. Wisconsin needs to become one of the great yearly rivalry games on the National scene... approaching the level of USC-UCLA and Michigan vs. ‘The’ and like Nebraska vs. Oklahoma used to be.
There are so many connections between The Prairie and The Dairy States in general. And love for football is off-the-charts in both States. Not to mention the always simmering NFL feud (always there even while the Bears have not lived up to their end).
As long as the Illini continue to build a solid foundation for the future... and Wisky plays at their usual good-to-really-good level... this match up CAN become one of the great rivalries for fan interest around the country.

I agree. Northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin are the same state culturally and historically northern Illinois was fully part of the dairy belt.
That being said I want Badger meat for dinner Saturday night. Beat Bucky!!

I appreciate your work as Loyalty historian! One minor quibble. I wish that 2019 game had been a 24-3 beatdown. It was 24-23. All hail the golden foot of James McCourt.
