I didn’t know what those two universities were wanting. But it turns out one of the issues is the leaving schools want to use PAC 12 funds to pay for their transition to their new conference. The board of directors are probably spilt between schools so the remains 2 schools basically have no say. What I heard is the MWC and remaining 2 PAC 12 schools could merge but retain the Pac 12 name.

Ore St, and Wazzu wanted to keep the 'departing schools' from calling a meeting of the conference, and voting on an agenda of items... The PAC12 conference rules state that if a team leaves the conference, they don't get a vote in any conference meeting, and OSU and WSU argued that since those teams have 'announced their intentions to leave' the conference they should NOT have a voice in any future conference meetings... Like a meeting to decide who gets what remaining money there is left in their treasury....

This is FAR, FAR from being decided...

if they are "grappling" with it now, just wait until they have to LIVE it next year

Just from what I've read and not knowing the details, the conference leadership (if you can call it that) seems like it's made a monumental blunder in not understanding their contractual obligations. Grab your popcorn!

Here is the scariest part, the Big Ten's mega deal is only seven deals. Eventually:

1. Big TV/streaming deals may dry up. Regular and cable TV is dying. Streaming way be the future, but right now it is in a big time teething process and some these service cannot continue to lose money.

2. These network going to realize that the Big Ten is the conference who only won one title combined in football and men's basketball this century. If the SEC gets FSU, Clemson, and Miami it is over, there is only a p1 and it is not the conference based in the shrinking Midwest and the fading West Coast.

This is exactly why the B1G needs those schools, or at least FSU, Miami and perhaps UNC and GT - or some other combo that includes FSU and Miami. One would think this will happen with the chaos going on at ESPN and Disney trying to sell it, but you never know.

The B1G absolutely needs Florida since they have a big goose egg in Texas.

Respectfully, I agree that TV is dying, but disagree with the consequences. No one cares about titles. It's all about viewership. The SEC is tied to ESPN through 2034. When the BIG is renegotiating their deals the SEC will be committed for another 4-5 years depending on how early the negotiations begin. The BIG will be holding all of the chips over the SEC, and ESPN is in worse shape than the BIG partners.

Also, there is only 1 SEC team in the top 10 currently (Georgia), and 3 if you count Texas and Oklahoma. There are three BIG teams in the top 10, and 5 if you count Oregan and Washington. The odds are the BIG will have more success in the expanded playoff.

Big Ten AP Rankings Watch - the Latest

Five of Top Ten in the Nation.

2 - Michigan
3- The...
5- Washington
8 - Oregon
10 - Penn State

The Illini should be getting lots more National TV exposure in years ahead in matchups against these and the other Big teams. And good Illini showings will help recruiting.
