You are wrong buddy been an Illinois fan for 50 years I don't watch games or seasons through rose colored glasses like youChecks account. Yeah, you are obviously a Volunteer troll that created an account for this post.
No quarrels with the team today. Tough game. Awful refs. We missed shots and they got all the bounces. Win our next 3 and this has been a successful first half of the season
These refs decided from the get go they wanted to let it be a bruiser of a game. But when Terrence Shannon is smacked in the face going to the basket and they don’t even review. Just incompetence.. that said if Goode and Domask hit the broadside of a barn in this then we are not falling behind. We’ll be ok.way too many threes taken (double what UT took) and outrebounded by 9. FT shooting great again, hopefully that trend continues
Beyond the Sweet 16? I wouldn't predict anything beyond the round of 32. There are certainly things I like about this team, but there are a lot of problems that I don't think can be fixed. That said, quite happy with 2-1 over the last three games. The Nice:
A March-tournament-style game in December.
A good yardstick game for the Illini to measure where they’re at – and where they need to be.
Showed good fight at the end to make things close.
The Not Nice:
Letting Tennessee have their way almost at will to get into the paint and drive to the hole all day.
Domask couldn’t settle into his game.
Shannon was kept under control for a good part of the game.
The lack of true Point showed up again with ballhanding woes.
Bottom Line:
The Beloved need to up their overall game if they have hopes of getting beyond the Sweet Sixteen level.
Gotta find a better way to clog up the middle.
But still, Our shade of Orange is way better than Theirs.
I think our team is pretty solid this year. By no means perfect, but I’m curious as to what all of our problems are that are not solvable as of December 9.Beyond the Sweet 16? I wouldn't predict anything beyond the round of 32. There are certainly things I like about this team, but there are a lot of problems that I don't think are solvable.
This a popular theme. Let me say I think they aren't tired and the only negative impact of a road trip like this where we get a four day break before this game is the distractions that come from being on the road.1. Guys seemed tired, especially halfway through the second half. 3 road games in a week, tough draw
Exactly. And when they went cold PU got back in it. I’m ok if you’re getting drive and kick open 3s but that’s not what we were shooting for the most part. Loved the action at the end when Guerrier was getting screen on left side with shooter (Goode mostly) and then when they switched he went straight to the hole. Would have to have seen that when UT went on their run to stop the momentum a little. Think we would’ve gotten some better looks had we done that sooner.Alabama entered game shooting 41% from 3. Illini shoot under 34%.

It would be "than Illinois".They are head and shoulders better then illinois
What's the score if we shoot our average?Alabama entered game shooting 41% from 3. Illini shoot under 34%.
lmaoThey are head and shoulders better then illinois
Shannon ended with 22. Still not his best game. But there were other factors affecting that...(crushed each time he drove the lane)Shannon got 19. Not 33, but still good.
Troll much? Can Hawkins figure out how to take a charge? His inside defense was horrible. How do we not have another big man on the roster besides him and Dainja?
Most has to do with the level of competition and pace. Number of points is the wrong metric, though. Points per possession is a lot more useful. And opposing FG%.What happened to our defense? We've given up 86 and 89 points our last two games. I thought that was supposed to be our strongsuit? WOuld really like to see it come back. If it was there these last two games we win easily against FAU and would have pulled it out today.
100% agree. This is the type of early season road loss that Michigan State (in previous years) would take which serves to make them better and tougher down the stretch. I really like this team. Will they win the Big Ten or go deep in March? I don't know, but I really like our chances.Always love the mass freakouts after beating #11 and losing on the road to #17 by 7. This team is really good and way better than last year. Some things to fix, but a REAL chance to make a deep run in March for the first time in a while
Yep, IMO this is our best shot at a sweat 16 team since Kofi and Ayo.Always love the mass freakouts after beating #11 and losing on the road to #17 by 7. This team is really good and way better than last year. Some things to fix, but a REAL chance to make a deep run in March for the first time in a while
Totally agree that those refs had no business officiating a game that big. I won't blame them for the loss, but the extremely late block call on Guerrier near the end of the game?...gimme a break! No quarrels with the team today. Tough game. Awful refs. We missed shots and they got all the bounces. Win our next 3 and this has been a successful first half of the season
I don't think you were watching the same game as the rest of us.They are head and shoulders better then illinois
I think Illini shot 17 fewer 2-pt shots than they averaged in first 8 games.Exactly. And when they went cold PU got back in it. When luke Goode leads us in rebounds we will more than likely lose nothing against him just need more from our bigsTotally agree that those refs had no business officiating a game that big. We win this on a neutral court. The refs came out the second half wearing Vols jerseys. It is what it is. Everytime ILL had a lead there were unrelenting calls against us. Everytime we were closing the gap, more fouls against us. That flagrant on Ty was so baffling.
