Do they though? Let's say something favorable to TSJ is agreed behind the scenes, but won't take effect for some time...

I could imagine being satisfied by our AD making a statement about due process, presumption of innocence, there are two lives involved here, TSJ deserves to live his normally until he has his day in court, we feel confident that something not as dire as the charge is in fact true, etc... so we're reinstating him today.

(I'm obviously not a law-talkin' guy!)
Josh could have done that last Friday, it was apparent that he knew in his mind that this was BS. I believe that they will need more than that. How much more is the $1,000,000 question.

I’m sure they can do that. Nothing legally is keeping TSJ from playing. If they were to go through with it they better be 200% certain that TSJ is innocent (not “not-guilty”) of all charges. Then prepare for the hell storm from everyone who is not an Illini fan and even some who are.

I'm curious what the timing is for the defense to get access to the prosecution's evidence.

Shannon has his own texts and emails. Those perhaps exonerate him.

Also, if the bar has a video they can turn it over to the defense.

The police may have turned things over that aren't covered under FOIA but available to defense.

Just a few thoughts of things out there that may be in private hands but not in public realm.

That is my concern. I can take other fanbases being critical. I would worry if our Alumni and Donors get upset.

I guess I just don't understand how they can reinstate him without some kind of public information about the situation becoming available that makes it clear they aren't sweeping it under the rug. Bringing him back with no other facts risks a major backlash nationally.
I don’t see university leadership doing this without a public showing that the charges are or will soon be dismissed.

Would having to leave the state be an issue for him? Would he need his travel for games approved by the court as he is out on bail?

Contrarian take:

Social/cultural paradigms shift. For the last 15-20 years, we’ve moved in SUCH a “pro-‘victim’” direction on this sort of thing that people could be forgiven for thinking our society practically promotes a guilty-until-proven-innocent dogmatic creed when it comes to sexual assault allegations.

… So. IF this case is as flimsy as it seems and the DA is as sketchy as she seems and our previous impression of Terrence as an awesome kid is still true and our culture needs a bit of a “correction” back toward this country’s sacred truth that a person is innocent until proven guilty…

There just might be GOOD PR in having Shannon’s back and not cowering before a witch-hunt based on shoddy evidence. Josh wouldn’t stand firmly in his corner with a charge out there unless he REALLY had a good reason to do so … so if he does, I trust him.

Let’s remember that if this is indeed a BS allegation, this woman and/or DA is doing horrible harm to the cause of finding justice for sexual assault victims. Again, assuming TSJ is innocent until there’s clear evidence to the contrary and assuming this case is as weak as the EVIDENCE so far suggests it is … I, for one, will be extremely proud of the DIA for having the cajones to let an innocent college kid keep playing a sport he loves while he’s still an innocent American citizen with full legal rights.

Again … it’ll get us some negative publicity, but I think you underestimate how many people would view it as doing what’s right in the face of a delusional mob.

I feel like any announcement being made would be to say he’s reinstated. Wouldn’t make much sense to announce he’s still suspended right?

Not sure that is correct. The case number listed on the TSJ Complaint is DG-2023-CR-300181 (see attached).
Usually, CR is a court case abbreviation for Criminal. DM is a family law court case abbreviation for Divorce/Parenting and/or Child Support.
So my educated "guess" is that the case number that you have listed above is not the same case number as the Criminal Complaint filed against TSJ.
But I defer to others on this Board like mrh vet to confirm my guess.

I stand corrected.

This take seems spot on to to me... time to have a little backbone 😎

More worried about the other fanbases coming for his throat. Even if he’s completely innocent they’ll never let him live it down.
Not worried about the heckling, really most concerned about the parts of Illini nation that would swear off the university, because they would think that this was done to win some more games. Once the charges are dropped, then we are all good.
