Is this supposed to provide confidence going into this game? We're going to win by double digits...
We've got a 3-game win streak going against them and we beat the same team last year by 9. Dain had 20 points...
You should have been at the OSU game in 22. Underwood got ejected but happened to rally the crowd as he left. The last 2 minutes of that game was insanely loud. Loud enough to say it's the loudest environment that I've ever been in. Much louder than the undefeated Wisky game I went to in 05. Pretty sure the Assembly Hall held 1k+ more. There's been some chatter recently about the size of college basketball arenas and how it impacts noise level/home court advantage.
Baylor just opened one that holds 8000 people. Intentionally sized for a home court environment.
The Assembly Hall was built for multipurpose use, it seems (I don't recall the history exactly). It's a good place to watch a game, but I don't think it's prone to be the loudest.
Well they would have ran some different stuff with TJ. They ran some stuff similar to what the Warriors run when they have a non shooter in the game.(when they skipped it to Ty in the corner w/ Luke on the wing) the warriors do that with Draymond in the corner then sorta a handoff screen to get Klay(Luke) a 3 but Purdue defended it pretty well. They also would have countered with a different lineup with TJ available as I mentioned in the post game thread.Do you think that being short TSJ this year(vs last) minimized that concern? Those shots(or lack thereof) we're coming from other areas.
Correct. Just used him as an example….they run it with some of their other bigs too.Draymond will put up a 3 if the other teams leave him wide open. When he was shooting 30% (most of his career), teams would let him shoot and see if he got hot. Enough teams tried it that he decided to learn to shoot the 3. He was shooting over 40% this year prior to his suspension.
I didn't say it couldn't get loud, I said it's not prone to it. Or at least, as prone as it could be and other arena's are said to be.You should have been at the OSU game in 22. For all the hand-wringing about Rodgers' offense I don't think that's the end of the court where we lost this game. On a points per possession basis we put up the third-best offensive performance Purdue has seen all year. We lost the game on defense, and specifically on the defensive glass. This was by far the worst game of the year in both of those areas. You just can't win when you give up offensive rebounds on 53% of the other team's misses.I am PRAYING that you're right here and that Ty isn't going to be become a target on the offensive end. That last shot that he flat out passed up and didn't bother to look at the rim was the one that shocked me. Edey or no Edey, he has to shoot that.
Exactly. And it was really unhelpful to rebounding that we lost Ty early to foul trouble and then later in a more schematic way on offense. For all the hand-wringing about Rodgers' offense I don't think that's the end of the court where we lost this game. Fortunately, I don't think that was a personnel issue and I think it's fixable. We gave them a bit too much respect inside and it lost us the game. I also think Ty would have been more effective had he been a bit less respectful of Edey. We didn't really make him move his feet as much as we could have and it's just too easy for him to be disruptive if he's stationary. I would've liked to have seen Rodgers go into his chest a time or two even if he got blocked, just make the guy make a tougher play and keep him guessing about what was coming next a bit more.
I guess that's easier to say if you're not the guy getting knocked into the third row.

To be clear, I think we’ve reached crazy noise levels lately. I was at the 2021-22 Arizona game, and it was really loud at points. It just seems less consistent now … seems like Krush is less active during the less exciting parts of the games now.You should have been at the OSU game in 22. Trent Frazier called that loudest game he played in at Illinois. Think the orange out aspect always seems to get the crowd going too.You should have been at the OSU game in 22. I will just throw my 2cents out there that in my personal view from atop the SFC the Krush to me isn't nearly as noisy as they use to be.. Is it the beer sales? I am not sure but they are not nearly as loud and noisy as they were. And most of the rich and old crowds seem quite dossal these days.To be clear, I think we’ve reached crazy noise levels lately. Being dorked can be disruptive to a players mental state. We still got layups. Ty had layups, missed too many. I'm not worried about that defense. Ty was not himself, will be better.

Agree but Illinois has a ways to go….This one is big for my fan psyche … I figured a loss to Purdue and while the comeback impressed me, digging the hole alarmed me. So…
… How we come out vs. MSU in the House of ‘Paign says a lot. I think we come out pissed off again and win in similar fashion to last year (not a dominating margin but a dominating performance).
P.S. When I was getting into the Illini, Mackey Arena couldn’t hold a candle to Assembly Hall as far as atmosphere. We need to take the next step in Champaign to get the buzz back. It should annoy all of us that Purdue has a better homecourt advantage than us, as it doesn’t have to be that way! Hope it’s rocking the rest of the year!
Friends of mine (Kansas fans) went to the scrimmage game earlier this year. They said they couldn’t believe how quiet it was in State Farm Center. They expected it to be a loud since Illinois was beating the preseason #1 team. They have been to many different arena and were underwhelmed by the crowd at Illinois!People keep saying this, but it WAS one of the loudest circa 2005. It simply was. Hate to say it, but go watch a video on YouTube of a home game from 2000-2007 … the current problem is us. And we have video evidence, haha.
2023-24 vs. #4 Marquette
2006-07 vs. #3 Wisconsin
Needless to say, the current squad has done way more to deserve a great crowd. In the 2007 video, there is a hum of crowd noise the whole time - just as there is in Mackey. In the Marquette video, our crowd waits to react.
Start the 2007 video at 1:57:42. At 1:58:12, McBride hits a three for the lead … JUST as loud as anything we heard at Mackey the last few years. We can do better, and we have in the past!
Agree. And docile, too.I will just throw my 2cents out there that in my personal view from atop the SFC the Krush to me isn't nearly as noisy as they use to be.. Is it the beer sales? TBF, if the numbers are accurate online, Edey's 7'4", 300 lbs. A slightly taller Kofi. Coleman is 6'10", 225. CoHawk gives up 75 lbs and half a foot to the guy and still did a solid job on him.Agree that was rebounding that cost us the game. Guess I do think it is a personnel problem however. Hawk and even Dain looked like boys compared to Edey. He can reach over them and is immovable to block out. Don’t know what his reach is but he is very different from Dickinson.
