We're really good. Even Speed Racer crashes from time to time.

I REALLY, REALLY WANT THIS ONE!

Now I am going to have this song in my head all day...AGAIN! I just got it out yesterday. :D

Biggest key is if we can slow down Walker. Did a decent job against both Boo and Braden the last 2 games. Interestingly, felt like Dra did better in Smith but Ty did better on Boo.

Otherwise think we match up well and I don’t think they have anyone to check Marcus.

There's been some chatter recently about the size of college basketball arenas and how it impacts noise level/home court advantage.

Baylor just opened one that holds 8000 people. Intentionally sized for a home court environment.

The Assembly Hall was built for multipurpose use, it seems (I don't recall the history exactly). It's a good place to watch a game, but I don't think it's prone to be the loudest.
People keep saying this, but it WAS one of the loudest circa 2005. It simply was. Hate to say it, but go watch a video on YouTube of a home game from 2000-2007 … the current problem is us. And we have video evidence, haha.

2023-24 vs. #4 Marquette

2006-07 vs. #3 Wisconsin

Needless to say, the current squad has done way more to deserve a great crowd. In the 2007 video, there is a hum of crowd noise the whole time - just as there is in Mackey. In the Marquette video, our crowd waits to react.

Start the 2007 video at 1:57:42. At 1:58:12, McBride hits a three for the lead … JUST as loud as anything we heard at Mackey the last few years. We can do better, and we have in the past!

They're probably going to put Akins on Domask, he's their best perimeter defender if I'm not mistaken

I'm a little worried about health with Quincy hurting his wrist again and Hansberry with the back. Hopefully both are ready to go. A dip from Quincy back to his early season form when the wrist was bothering him would not be good for this team.
I'm worried about this as well. After the game he said it was the same wrist and it was hurting him pretty bad. Said he was going to get treatment and see what happens. Didn't sound encouraging in the least bit. Hopefully he woke up this morning and all is well!

I mean, I'm back to trust issues after the way we started this one...but to say "no shot" is just silly.
During the fist half last night it seemed to me that we were seeing the result of the team learning to play on the road, against the #1 team, in a loud-as-he!! arena without its star. I was amazed at how quickly they found themselves and clawed their way back. They hadn't had this sort of test in the week since the TSJ allegations surfaced. Am glad they had it early and against #1.

I'm optimistic. MSU is a very good team but we're at home. It should be a dogfight; I believe that we'll prevail. It seems reasonable to project that nearly all games played among the top 5-6 teams in the conference will be tight. You get your odd Illinois blowouts @ Michigan c. 2021 but those are rare.

My old man and I had a tradition of making time for at least 1 Illini game a year until my military obligations and COVID put a stop to that for a few years after the 2018-19 season. Last year we were able to go to the dreadful Braggin’ Rights game and well we all know how that ended. This game against MSU will be our first time back in Champaign together since the 2019 year and I can’t contain my excitement.

Right now, my deepest concern about this game is I'm just hoping Sissoko doesn't kill anyone. If he takes out Quincy or Marcus, I'll absolutely lose it.
I also have a concern with Sissoko and that's him sitting in the paint and Ty not looking at the rim from beyond 7 feet. His performance last night has me concerned that he's going to be the focus of the opposition in game plans going forward. Play 10 feet off of him and beg him to shoot. Even if he misses, he needs to be some sort of threat.

No one else has an Edey….really the only way it works…if it worked with other bigs other teams would have already been doing it.

How quickly? We got down 16-4, then down by 20 in the second half. We let up three huge runs. One to start the game, one to end the half, then another push in the second half. If only one of those three don't happen, we probably win.

This is one of the areas where we sorely, sorely miss TSJ. When you have a guy that can creat his own shot and finish....that's a run stopper. That kind of guys keeps 16-4 to 16-10. He keeps being down 15 at half to being down 8. Then, with five minutes to go....it's a dogfight to the end where he's a closer.

That said, Domask has been phenomenal in stepping up to try and fill that gap.

I am PRAYING that you're right here and that Ty isn't going to be become a target on the offensive end. That last shot that he flat out passed up and didn't bother to look at the rim was the one that shocked me. Edey or no Edey, he has to shoot that.

How quickly? Within 30 minutes of getting punched repeatedly from the outset. That's pretty quick in my book, given the opponent, the venue, and the mere week that's elapsed after losing their 1st-team AA teammate.

I don't see the point in debating what might be or have been with TSJ. He's gone for now and we take the court with the players we have. Of course he would have made a difference last night from the outset. That said, guys will step up and play more effectively than they would have otherwise. The gelling of this new set of starters will take time. I was delighted last night about how they played during the final 10 mins, and how they neutralized Edey for the entire game. He didn't get into any sort of offensive rhythm until very late.

I get your POV, and assume you chose your moniker accordingly.

Purdue did the same thing last year against Ty too and no one else did it
He looked like Rodman or Draymond, though later has gotten better at taking the wide open 3. He missed a couple layups and rebounds and seemed to get sped up. Being on the road in front of a hyped crowd didn’t help I’m sure. But there are examples of teams that have won championships with glue guys. Ty just needs to slow the game down and execute on what he does well. (Edit, had meant to reply to the original poster.)

It was, Pru, but I don't count them among the top 5 or 6 in the league. I'd put Purdue, Illinois, Wisc, MSU, OSU and maybe Nebraska there. Iowa, Michigan, NW seem a separate tier below that so far, NW's victory over Purdue aside.
