I have a question for Bears fans.

Yes, you are first and foremost Bears fans. But what other NFL team (if any) do you also 'like'? Is there a second team that you like or closely follow for some reason. And if so, how did you become somewhat a 'fan' of that team? What do you like about them?

And what could the Bears franchise learn from this, if anything.

For me it's the Broncos. First and foremost because I thought John Elway was an amazing QB and loved watching his crazy comebacks and laser throws. Second, because they are also orange and blue (just different shades) and loved their old "D" helmets. Now I live in the Denver area also so it makes even more sense. The Bears will always be #1 because I'm a Chicagoan through and through and it's who I grew up rooting for (plus the '85 Bears were my idols), but the Broncos are for sure my strong #2. Doesn't hurt that they, until recently, have been consistently good for most of my lifetime.

I will cheer for the Cowboys...this week. As a true Bears fan, my second favorite team is whoever plays the Packers.

Joking aside, I normally cheer for the non-juggernauts. I lived in Jacksonville for a while, so I'll cheer for the Jags. Always had a little love for the Chargers despite their dysfunction (might be worse than ours...). Maybe the Bengals as well, especially w/ Chase Brown on the team.

Come playoff time (in all sports), I typically cheer for the team that has been through the most hardship. This year it will be the Browns, Lions and Bills. And maybe the Texans, since their fans had to endure the Oilers never winning anything.

Funny, I don't watch much NFL, but since Shahid Kahn bought the Jags, I want them to do well. Lived in SD 15 15 years during/after my USN stint and became a die-hard Chargers fan, only to give up on them after they bailed to LA. Lived in Cincy as a kid during the Kenny the Snake/Big Red Machine days and have always loved the Bengals (those helmets!!!) and what 6th grader wouldn't love Charlie Hustle, Bench, Perez, Concepcion, Foster, etc.....???? My top 2 single NFL disappointments was The Super Bowl losses by the Chargers AND Bengals to the 49ers smdh.....

I tend to root for the 'unlucky' teams also.... aren't we a couple of lovable losers??? lol

Bears only... win or lose... i will watch other teams but typically only because of one player.. Ex Illini typically

I always root for Bears but have had other teams I follow normally because of specific players. Sometimes because of ex Illinois players. Tampa Bay In the Simion Rice & Dungy years, Colts in the Manning/ Dungy years Rams in Warner years. Right now I catch games that have Illini alum.

The Packers game made it clear before the Bears think about another quarterback they must focus on offensive and defensive linemen. Until the offensive line issue is resolved any quarterback will struggle. After that problem is fixed, then one can figure out if there is another quarterback out there who could do a better job. Until it is fixed, make sure you have a quarterback who, like Fields, can run for his life.

Going into the offseason, the Bears have $62M of salary cap room for 2024. 7th in the NFL.
The Bears have 2 likely salary cuts of Eddie Jackson and Cody Whitehair. After these 2 cuts, the Bears would have $84M of cap room.
Barring other moves, the Bears will need to replace 6 starters, 2 on offense, Darnell Mooney and Lucas Patrick. 4 on defense, Yannick Ngakoue, Justin Jones, Eddie Jackson, and Jaylon Johnson.
Other than Jaylon Johnson, who could be brought back on the franchise tag for ~$18.8M, the starters you are losing are roughly corresponding to the positions that performed the weakest during the season (C, DE #2, and WR #2).
The Bears have 6 draft picks. five positions are known, #1, #9, #75, #110, #142. The Bears other pick is the Eagles 4th round selection which position is TBD based on playoff results.

Amen.
I know the players on the Packers almost as well as those on the Bears
A Packers loss is almost as good as a Bears win.

Question for the group. I see often on here that Bears can’t develop QBs and current staff is holding up that tradition. Certainly can’t argue with the first part of that given Bears history including Fields’ first year. But what is the negativity around Getsy and the QB coach (can’t remember his name, but came from MN I think) based upon regarding QB development? I’m not in love with Getsy’s play calling, but most people who are in the keep Fields camp must believe he’s progressed enough this year to warrant keeping him. Coaches had nothing to do with that? Maybe people think he should be further along given his physical tools, and it is the lack of coaching that is holding him back. Isn’t it possible that Fields just isn’t capable of mastering the mental aspects of the game to the point that he can consistently let his physical tools shine? It seems like the staff might not have excelled at tweaking the O to make it “easier” for Fields and better take advantage of what he can do at this point. But isn’t it possible that Fields will never be able to put it all together?

This year the numbers put Fields outside the top 20 QBs. Some of those numbers were impacted by him missing time, so maybe, and I mean maybe, he slides barely into top 20. Isn’t he to “blame” some for this lackluster performance. Sure Fields can makes some great plays, but what have people seen from him on a consistent that leads them to believe he can improve enough to at least get into the 8-12 range, which I believe is needed for a team to consistently be a playoff team and have a chance to challenge for the Super Bowl? That’s where I’m at. I have no confidence he is that guy. Would better coaching help? I’m sure it would, but I still think there are too many holes for him to make the needed jump. And let’s not forget the team’s improvement and whatever improvement Fields has had this year came while playing the 5th easiest schedule in NFL.

Sure the Bears have plenty of needs, and those extra draft picks from trading down are enticing, but you don’t pass on a QB that looks to have a good chance of having a floor of top 8-12 QBs in league to keep the 20th (maybe) best QB with 8-12 as a ceiling. It would need to be a crazy offer — talking last year’s haul plus another first rounder — or a very good one from WA or NE to do so. And honestly still not sure you make the deal. Have to remember some of those extra picks would be a year or two from helping to fill needs. With the cap space they have + the reset on the QB rookie contract, they should be able to make a big impact in free agent market this year.

I’m not 100 percent sold on Caleb or Maye (I prefer the former), but no where near convinced Fields will ever make the jump required. Though a gamble, when you have the chance to draft a franchise QB that has the talent to make the Bears SB contenders, you take the gamble. Poles passed on drafting a franchise QB once. Just don’t see him doing it again

I think I'm mostly with you. My hang up is less on Fields - I kind of feel like we know his ceiling, and it is probably "can get you to the playoffs but would need really outstanding talent around him to win a SB" - and more on whether 1) the Bears can get the "right" QB and 2) whether they can set him up for success.

I should probably just get over it and realize that decision is always going to be really hard and that's what the money is for when you're an NFL GM. At least this is a year with a lot of high-ceiling QB options.

Wondering myself if this another Jacksonville situation... Let's let the HC fire the staff, then we will fire him and hire Harbaugh?

It is hard being a Bears fan!

I'm guessing DJ Moore wasn't very kind to Luke in his exit interview yesterday. The team seems to like Coach E, and there is no doubt they kept fighting for him. Getsy absolutely had to go. This was probably the easiest of the many decisions Poles & Co. are facing this off-season.
Getting Jaylon Johnson signed should be priority #2. We have the cap space & he's a stud. We either re-sign him or look for another shut down corner. Our youngsters are good, but not as good as him.

I wouldn't have wanted Harbaugh, but if he had led the Bears to a Super Bowl Championship I would have been able to stomach him a lot better.

Eberflus leads them to the super bowl I will think that he is smart until they fade however many years later. Hopefully he is able to hire some coordinators who aren't perverts.

Glad Getsy is gone.

Tighten up the O line. If they keep Fields get a lot of picks and another stud receiver who can get 5 yards of separation and maybe that will be enough for Fields to throw the ball.

Go Bears, I'm losing patience

I'm all in for Jim Harbaugh as Bears HC. Three main reasons:
1. He has won everywhere he's been.
2. I think he can develop a QB.
3. It is exactly the opposite move compared to what the Bears have had at HC for the last 30 years (which has been mostly bad).

If he wins and develops a QB, everything else is just noise.

You make some strong points. I may have to reconsider. I liked him a lot better as a player (Both Bears and Colts). As a coach, just annoys me.

1. It’s true. But he also wears out his welcome quickly. And drama follows him wherever he goes. He gets into fights with his superiors. The Bears always seem to have a tangled mess of an organizational chart, and adding a HC who always wants to be top dog wherever he goes feels like a recipe for disaster to me.

2. I don’t see any evidence of that.

3. It’s true that it would be a very different hire than their last few. But I don’t think pounding yourself on the toe with a hammer is necessarily better than pounding yourself on the thumb with a hammer.

If Harbaugh were to be hired as Bears HC, I would be very, very happy to have him prove me wrong.

I'd take Pete Carroll over Eberflus but bears already said he's staying. unless he actually would rather be in this new advisor role than coach somewhere

As a White Sox fan I strongly advise against hiring a head coach in their 70s, even if they have a history of winning a championship (or three).
