As a White Sox fan I strongly advise against hiring a head coach in their 70s, even if they have a history of winning a championship (or three).

As another Sox fan, I agree with this. But you must remember that the Sox hired a much younger man who has won nothing. So the simple take-away is that neither the Bears or White Sox organizations have a tiny clue about hiring competent people. The Bears and Sox could select someone out of their fan bases to conduct the hiring process and do as well or better than the guys being paid to do this.

Harbaugh is too smug and tainted. Forget about the coaching retreads. Find some fresh guy from a college program and give him a shot. But not a guy who is already Social Security age or a guy clearly swimming upstream without a paddle. Some guy who understands what football means to the City of Chicago and who wants to honor and elevate that. And some guy who can finally figure out how to beat Green Bay at least once in a lifetime.

I’m not 100 percent sold on Caleb or Maye (I prefer the former), but no where near convinced Fields will ever make the jump required. Though a gamble, when you have the chance to draft a franchise QB that has the talent to make the Bears SB contenders, you take the gamble. Poles passed on drafting a franchise QB once. Just don’t see him doing it again
I was listening to Chase Daniel who is very in the keep Justin camp and his opinion is that Justin's ceiling is Top 12-15 which seems similar to your range. If the Panthers were good this year and you had picks 9 and 20 or something, then keeping Fields makes sense. But with the number 1 pick I think you have to take the gamble how hitting on a superstar QB. The advantage the Bears have is they are not a bad team like the usual #1 pick, so there shouldn't be a Bryce Young or David Carr situation where the #1 QB has no chance because the team around them is so bad. I think it is a fair question to ask how many top QB's bust because of the QB and how many are ruined by the situation.
Also if you compare the Bears to the Bengals who were god awful for a really long time too. They hit on Joe Burrow, but then had to wait a full year to pick between Ja'Marr Chase and Penei Sewell in 2021. The Bears can choose to draft an equivalent level prospect LT or WR prospect at #9 to support a new QB in addition to DJ Moore and Darnell Wright already here.

It looks like just about the only member of the offensive staff that's staying is the o-line coach. Makes you wonder if the new potential OC has a connection to them or if they want him to be the new OC.

Bears to play a "home" game in London next season. Vikings and Jaguars also set to play games in London. Panthers will play a game in Munich. Opponents for each team will be announced when schedule is announced in the spring. There will also be a game played in Sao Paulo but the teams that will play in that game are not known.

Waldron and Kubiak are both solid candidates. Both have called plays in the past, Waldron w/ Seattle and Kubiak w/ Minnesota and Denver. Looks like the Bears finally realize how important it is to get an experienced OC under a defensive head coach. Hopefully they make a quick hire, since the new OC will factor heavily into what they do at QB.

Here's what I'd like to see the Bears do...

Trade #1 pick for a haul--the BEST that they can get.

Keep Fields.

Draft Bo Nix with their #9 pick (most accurate QB in history, strong arm, good wheels, big kid.)

Use the rest of the picks to build up a powerful defense ,and offensive line; stock up for the future.

sign a top of the line wide receiver and a veteran stud defensive end.

Reasoning: they're not winning it all next year anyway-- so build up the best tools going forward and give Nix a year or two to learn behind Fields.

Oh yes--- Fire Eberflus-- he'll never be a winner. Get a charismatic coach to lead this team into the future.

Today’s Green Bay - Dallas game is an interesting choice for Bears fans to ponder. If you had to root for one of them, who?

Cowboys have that sickening, self-proclaimed ‘America’s Team’ arrogance. (And I don’t remember any National election where Dallas won that crown, anyway. Because They DIDN’T).

And Packers lately just ‘Own The Bears’.

So, interesting tough choice to make.

Also, Dallas always thinks they are a better team than they ever are (at least since the old Glory Days of many moons ago).

Packers are clearly a team on the rise.

Guess it comes down to whether or not you like Texas BBQ better than Milk and Cheese.

I don't have any hate towards the cowboys like I do the packers. they've been an underachieving team in the playoffs and were the team of the 90s but haven't been a thorn in the bears' side like the packers. rooting for cowboys today but not looking good at all. IMO, jordan love looks much better than fields and he's in his first year as a starter. accurate and throwing off balance with different arm angles like Rodgers. their continuity at QB is uncanny.

Packers just know how to draft (and develop) top QBs. Hey, that's it! That's the answer. Let the Packers decide who the next Bears QB should be!
Or we're cursed....

It’s interesting how in all sports there are teams that can be loaded with individual talent but just can’t seem to ever win the big prize.

Dallas has all the money and acclaim and big stars and (old) legacy going for it yet they can’t find a way to get back to being on top.

And there will be major hell to pay now in the Metroplex with angry fans and an angry owner and players with lots of money and even more excuses. And as you say... if they don’t maybe go after Harbaugh (at least to explore the idea) they would not be doing their diligence.

I don’t know if Harbaugh would go to Dallas. The Dallas Owner has an ego the size of Texas and likes to be The Big Jefe. And Harbaugh likes those same things for himself. They might try it though just to see if it would work... and quiet down all those mad Cowboy fans who now have to watch the Texans advance.

I somewhat understood keeping Flus if Poles plan was to keep Justin and just completely load the team.

However after Strouds season and yesterday there is 0 chance Poles can risk passing up on two of those guys at 1, you can't recover from that if Caleb turns out to be a star.

Which leads us to keeping Flus and drafting Caleb. Instead of trying to find the next Lafleur, Shannahan etc and matching up the start of their Bears career together you keep Flus. Next year we have a new OC and him and Caleb hit it off, he becomes the first 4000 yard passer Bears win 11 games and go to the playoffs. That OC instantly becomes the #1 head coach candidate and Caleb has to start over with someone else.

If this happens...then we had a very good season...

I think people under estimate how much work, time and effort goes into replacing a HC. Especially if you’re hiring one that hasn’t been a HC before. Also continuity just doesn’t impact the QB or offense. I wouldn’t have been broken up if Eberflus had been let go, but I’ve been of the mind since about week 16/17 that Bears would keep Eberflus and draft a new QB.

The team has shown improvement, especially the D after they got Sweat. The moves made last season for the D were done to fit Eberflus’s D. A top 5-10 D is a great friend of a rookie QB. To me it makes sense to keep HC for D and team continuity and get rid of the offensive brain trust who showed nothing that would lead one to conclude they’re who I want around a rookie QB. Plus Flus seems to be liked by the players.

Can’t worry about your successful OC being snagged down the line. At this point we’ll take the successful part and worry about the rest later. If OC is successful and leaves at least you know what kind of system will fit the QB, and make nice hire accordingly.
