We need to start finding minutes for Dain and DGL just to get some breaks for our main 6. This load is not sustainable. Hopefully we have good news about TJ today.
I would agree but your wording maybe should have been, Dainja and DGL need to earn more minutes to help relieve the other 6. I like Dainja and what he could, brings to the game, but he just seems to miss assignments and clogs the lane up.. Just not a good fit for this offense without TJ..

I haven't heard the PG presser but am confident Brad opened with something like "That was just a great Big Ten Basketball game." And it was. Loved it pole to pole.

Conclusions:
1. Coleman
2. Coleman
3. Coleman
4. Ty
5. Ty
6. Ty
7. Luke
8. Luke (minus the FT at the end)
9. Justin!!!!
10. Quincy!!
11. Marcus (doubled and draped all night long and was still effective)

I love me some Illinois-Michigan State basketball games. MSU just dog tough, well-coached and relentless. Hoggard flaps but he's a baller. Walker and Hall a joy to watch. Carr's gonna be a beast. So satisfying to take them down.

Now let's absolutely destroy the Terps on Sunday. :illinois:🏀
I like Luke just amazes me that a good shooter like that hits 65% at the line.

Great win, if not tougher than I'd like it to be. Tough shooting night. Illinois is now second in the Big Ten in FT shooting and that's not something we've been able to say in a very long time. Last year's team loses this even with Terrence on the floor. I'm solidly on the Coleman DPOY train now. Watching him take on guards is a thing of beauty. I love that these guys know how to draw contact when needed. As much as we press team basketball, it is also quite lovely to see more than one player able to take their man off the dribble.

I think he's just in a little slump. Sickness, the grind, holidays...who knows. He'll get back on track. He's too pure a shooter not to, and his early season % was good-e.

No def not trying to sell Goode short, love him. Harmon is just playing better all around including making the open threes. He is adding some grit and fight the last two games when we are getting out hustled and out physical-ed as well.
Harmon is just doing some all around things better at this point.
We def need Goode minutes too. I hope he can get his shot going.
He just scored 16 against Purdue???? Hit several 3? Goode is ok. Harmon is a guard, Luke’s a 3/4

Yea Dain had back to back bad plays on defense in the 1st half and got sat on the bench for the rest of the game after. One he tried to jump a past to the post as the help man when he could have very easily walled up and prevented a layup. The other he didn't help on a pindown and MSU got a wide open 3 pointer.

I mean... What is Harmon supposed to do here?!?!?!?
They also called a fly by foul when he never touched the shooter. I have watched how he handles those calls with great maturity. As a player and coach I always knew it was better to "bite your tongue" and keep playing, but that was always very difficult. I was happy with myself when I was able to do it (especially when coaching). I have noticed his demeanor after a tough foul. I love it and it has to have a positive effect on the team.

Remember when he made comments and mispronounced that guy “Ehyo’s” name who used to suit up for us?

Hiberto beat me to it
I wonder if Izzo mispronounced these names when Weber was coaching?

Izzo was quite upset when BW was fired, (yes, he was a friend) but Izzo knew his success against the Illini was going to end.

Subtle disrespect? I know Izzo complemented BU, but I am not so sure he's a big fan.

He was also a champion of Todd Lickliter at Iowa. Which, same.

With 9 seconds left the refs went to the Illinois bench and told them to calm #4 down. (I was behind the bench) I guess Harmon was getting mouthy with one of the MSU players. At that point in the game it was very foolish of him and Brad and the other coaches all jumped up and yelled at Harmon. He walked right up to coach Underwood for a quick earful and the coach patted him on the back. Right after that Goode missed his FT. I'm sure he was very ticked about that last 9 seconds. He'll get over it tho.
I experienced that a couple times when a ref told me what was going on with one of my players. I remember 2 times when I thought the other team's player was the problem until the ref said something. I fixed that immediately. Thanks for sharing.

It's almost like he was 9/14 (64%) before he missed that free throw when they brought the graphic up on screen.
Yea, and if he had hit both ends on the 1 and 1 he would be shooting 69%. And if he hadn't missed any FTs this year he would be hitiing ..... Sorry, just having some fun.

My summary (ie MHO) after this gamethread:
Illinois earned those trips to the foul line.
Hawkins is definitely using his physical and mental basketball abilities to be a defensive terror in 1-on-1 and team defense situtations both. (BU even said so)
Luke Goode is a basketball player.

That's on ESPN or your app. On the U of I stats page, he's 9 for15 for 60% this season, so even worse. On the other hand, Luke did a great job to control the ball and grab it with two hands in traffic and quickly get it up around his shoulders on that play where he definitely earned that 1-and-1 FT that he missed late in the game. I immediately forgave his nerves at the FT line for his awesome hustle and 6 important rebounds. He has great shooting technique, so he just needs more reps late in games to calm those nerves. Keep up the great job Luke!
He doesn't shoot a lot of free throws and that is an incredibly small sample size. I would bet a lot of money he will/would stabilize around 80%.

Though weirdly enough I remember Lee Humphrey for Florida shooting 46% from 3 as a junior and senior but being a 63% free throw shooter in his career though he only shot 73 free throws in 4 years.

Easily my favorite win of they year. There are a ton of teams who can win when there offense is rolling and their best players are on fire (NW, Rutgers, FAU). But there are very few teams that can win when they don't have their A game. We buckled down and found a way against a team that was very desperate.

Yeah. When that stat popped up when he was at the line with several tics remaining it startled me. Seems out of character for a guy who clearly understands the fundamentals so well.
He only has 15 attempts this year. He had 2 last year and 6 as a freshman.

He is 15/23. You can't draw any conclusions based on that sample size. Say he hits 7 straight(which isn't difficult for a good shooter) he will be a career 73% FT shooter.
