Someone stepped in early because Rodgers shoots free throws like a big-game fish getting hit by lightning.
Yes, they called that on Rodgers stepping over (as the shooter). Was bound to happen as he does it as routine/every FT attempt. I then noticed his next FT attempt he kept himself from stepping in, and missed badly. So hopefully, it isn't a thing where he needs that forward step for whatever reason to make them.

Oh I agree. I think that's a big part of the problem- the refs simply aren't fast enough to keep up with the play and so in a lot of cases you have a ref in a bad position intuiting a foul based on body position of players. One thing that hasn't really been discussed, and I know this will drive people even crazier, but I almost think they may need to expand their crew from 3 to 4. Have 2 refs primarily responsible for running each baseline and the other 2 primarily responsible for running each sideline between the paint and then define each ref's role a lot better. Right now, it just seems that these 3 ref crews are having trouble even getting appropriate sightlines on the court
I have to imagine that correlates strongly to percentage of 3s taken for/against....any of our statistically minded folks want to look at that?
I believe NBA officiating is more predictable. Pick out the stars on any team and you’ll see who gets calls the journeymen never get.

I wonder if some of that is attributable to fatigue. It’s a lot easier to jack ups 3 than drive through 3 or 4 bodies, getting beat up along the way. It can’t be easier making 3 s late in the game when your legs are about gone.
Yeah, the shooter cannot break the plane of the free throw line until the ball hits something. Surprised it isn't called more on him.

We've been Texas Rangers fans from the womb....and somehow they made a magical run to World Series Champions last year.

Their strategy all night was to pack it in, then double anybody driving in, leaving us open for 3s every time down the court. They were hoping for a cold shooting night from us and got it. Fortunately, we won anyway, sign of a really good team.

Getting rid of the hand checking has helped a lot I think. It's a clearer and easier game to officiate than the Greco-Roman wrestling meets of yore.
I think the only play that really upset me from TSJ last night was the last of back to back to back threes he attempted late game.
I assume he wanted to fully end the game away after hitting that first one but the two heat checks after left a ton of time on the clock and allowed nebby to extend the game. Unacceptable and uncharacteristic, I don’t expect to see the same again.

True but if Ty is handling the ball much in crunch time teams will immediately foul and hope he misses.

I’m sure Goode will be the first to admit he expected himself to make all of his open shots and is disappointed he didn’t finish. What keeps me from throwing any more shade besides “he knows he has to do better” is he still hits the glass hard and gave us huge possessions off of missed FTs. That tells me he just missed, not a lack of effort or whatever nonsense people throw his way. Every shot he took was a shot I want him taking 100% of the time. Hope he gets them falling because he is the difference between a blowout and a nail biter.
I really don’t know how we could have guarded Tominaga any better. He hit so many with a guy in his face (as great players do) and one reason he got some nice layups was because we were so tight on him (and rightfully so). I really felt like TSJ had his best defensive effort in a while despite Tominaga going off. I see him going off as better offense just beating good defense IMO. Mast was getting too many open 3s with how well he can shoot it though.
NBA is a totally different animal, Big Ten officiating has never been good, worst in all the major conferences, and definitely the most inconsistent every game, both ways, but home court is worth 5 points in missed/no calls
B1G refs tend to let a lot of stuff go, which is why I think the conference tends to struggle in the tournament. You start getting called for things that have been let go for months, end up getting in foul trouble and playing tight.
That's one of my main worries for this squad. We have been great at avoiding fouls in conference, and we tend to get reactive when they get called.

Am I the only one who thinks TSJ isnt getting the foul calls driving the lane like before the suspension?
Maybe somewhat of late. I do think he might have been the recipient of a couple generous ones in his first game back.
