I'm putting this here, because I don't want it to die with the Michigan post-game thread. Can we talk about how well Coleman is seeing the whole floor? It is quite remarkable. He just has a feel right now for this offense and where his brothers are at it is something we might not see again for a while. Coleman, if you read this board, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Nevermind his defense, this dude is legit. Come back for 1 more year 🤣

Coleman’s shot is so smooth right now and he’s proving to be such a leader on the floor that he will find a home in the NBA next year. If there’s one thing he could work on it’s driving into the post, but that’s something I think a team will have him work on after taking a chance on him in the draft.

Love to see him work on that at the United Center !

Was that next year’s backcourt on display the last few minutes last night?

Wow, they looked tiny compared to our starting guards.

I guess the good news is they get to practice every day with one of the best sets of guards in college basketball.

I bet no. I think we have at least one transfer guard who will be starting next year. And at least one guard who will transfer out.

I do think it’s unlikely we catch Purdue but it’s not impossible. I think Purdue will likely drop one of its next three games.

Minnesota @Mackey seems very unlikely but they are playing with a lot of confidence and Purdue is due for a clunker. You never know.

@Ohio State- still a lot of talent there. Can see them going on a late run like last year. They have big, physical guards. If Thornton gets into a groove I’m not sure Purdue has anyone who can stop him. Couple that with a Sunday noon start and a sleepy OSU crowd and it’s possible.

Rutgers@Mackey- I think this is most likely. Rutgers has won there before and almost got them at the RAC. And they are playing much much better now with Mang up to speed and Williams looks like a difference maker. Their size, athleticism and press could really speed up Purdues guards.

We would need to run the table, but if we do a share is still possible.

If he can perfect that turn around fade away jumper in the paint, he would have quite an arsenal.

Sorry if this has been discussed. I don't feel like looking. At this point, considering what I have watch unfold this year in the Big10, I am glad we are done with MSU, Northwestern, Nebraska, and Rutgers (especially). Those team are going to be tough to beat the rest of the year. I know that anything can happen within the conference, but I like what we have ahead. JMHO.

Why is the DIA SO hung up on the cold, hard logic of whether or not the gimmick's name "makes sense" that it refuses to give a nod to the past and simply call this Paint the Hall Orange??
I like the old terms as well, but this is likely due to contractual obligations to State Farm and avoiding any use of the word "Hall" in any official capacity. This is part of the issue of sponsoring out the venue name (though the sponsorship money way offsets any downside).

It's actually bewildering they did not do this. Kansas' "David Booth Memorial Stadium" and Indiana's "Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall" come to mind.
This was a strategic move by State Farm. If it had been the State Farm Assembly Hall, even more people would've continued calling it simply "the Assembly Hall". By renaming to the SFC, SF has forced their name into people's mouths.

I'm guessing we did not feel we had enough leverage to push back on this during negotiations.

We're getting a TON of money from State Farm, which you get by giving the sponsor the name that will most strongly associate the facility with their brand.

There are those who insist that Ron Guenther in fact had already agreed to the deal in principle and Mike Thomas just signed the papers, but whatever the truth is, UI secured the bag on that deal.

They paid a lot of money. But it's a small sum by State Farm's standards. $60 mil for 30 years so, basically $2 mil per year.

They spend about $1 billion per year on advertising. They likely spent $15-20 million on their 60 second Super Bowl ad alone.

We needed the money, so we can't turn our nose up at it. But I think SF probably won that deal.

Didn't work for me. I still call it the Assembly Hall.

Also if memory serves we got the same amount from State Farm for 20 years that IU got for lifetime naming rights for their Assembly Hall.
