Illinois 91, Wisconsin 83 Postgame

I don't know that I've ever seen a player like Domask. In a peculiar sort of way he's a point guard. He gets it down low and whenever he's double or triple teamed, I think I'm about to see a Curbelo moment. But not so; he knows what he's doing and can score even if he's got a seven footer among the double teamers. I can also recall at least three sensational passes. He's kind of our Swiss army knife; he can do a little bit of everything and a lot of some things. Just a remarkable player.

Just keep stacking wins and continue to clean things up and don't worry about what any other team is doing. Several of the teams ahead of us have injury issues. A 3 seed is certainly in reach IF we win out. Not saying it will happen, but with this experienced team it could. It really could . . .
The team should absolutely think this way.

As for the fans.

I don't think Ellis ever went to NCAA with Notre Dame, if he picks Illinois we are probably cutting nets in 89.

Amazing game by MD who is likely the most unathletic, slow footed, slowest Illini to ever perform in the uniform...and maybe the smartest and most offensively skilled. That fadeaway jumper is extremely difficult to perfect, as he did tonight, against B1G defenders. Just think about it...how many others in college basketball use it so much and make that shot even close to his efficiency? My hat goes off with a deep bow to a terrific player.

TSJr. with another average performance...for a First Team All-American.....career game for most others.

Most importantly, this team might be coming to terms with being tough and performing at a high level with all the chips on the table. Every Day Guys becoming mentally focused and tough in crunch time.

Finally, many good things happening as the Illini head for a huge showdown with the Boilers. Expect every Assembly Hall seat to be filled with a body wearing orange, Go Illini!!!

Don't be disrespecting MD! Just because he plays at his own pace doesn't mean he can't blow by or get up when he needs to.

don’t think most unathletic is a correct statement

Wahl was cooking Quincy, no idea why he didn't touch the ball every possession, like we were doing with Domask.
Also really glad Brad switched Harmon off of inbounds duty after that TO. He CAN make an adjustment after all /s

Harmon again with smart cuts to the hole w/o the ball, opportunistic drives and strong D. Around 2:15 his block and then the immediate dagger outlet to TSJ for the and-one turned what was oscillating between a three-possession and two-possession game and opened up a 10-point lead that effectively ended the Badgers.

That downcourt awareness on the outlet pass turned the Maryland game after the filthy MD block of Young on the break and led to CoHawks and-one flush that shifted the mo to us permanently in that one.

Also... love Harmon at the line. $$$ in the bank with high interest, FDIC-insured, in a low-inflation environment.

When we play to win, we win. Love it.

[EDIT: Wahl gonna be seein' MD in his nightmares for a long, long time. That was not rent-to-own. That was flat-out taking-what-I-want-when-I-want-it ownership.]

Watched Marcus 4 years at SIU. Short answer is loyalty. No major offered him, but SIU was there from the start. He got his degree, fulfilled his legacy there and wanted to see if he could do it on a bigger stage. Great player. Better young man.
As both an Illini and SIU alum, I(as well as other Salukis) certainly do not begrudge Marcus going to U of I to finish his career. We are grateful for the 4 great years he gave us and he deserves showcasing his talents on the big stage.

Well done MD!

Hurts to know they could have been playing for the conference, at home, if they hadn’t choked that Penn State game away. Oh well. It is what it is. Close out strong.

Not every player is blessed with a wealth of raw physical talent.

Shannon is athletic and explosive.

Hawkins has height and length and versatility and a nice Three.

And Mr. Wisconsin-Illini Basketball has taken the kind of ball talent he was given and carved out a fine way to thrive with it. He has the face of someone who is always on his way to church to teach a Sunday School class or something. But his quiet smile and calm demeanor is hiding his tools to wipe the floor with you with lethality when he gets you in his clutches.

Many of us can name players who were gifted with a great deal of roundball talent and who never maximized it. The list is long and sad. A real shame for them and their teams.

And then there are the really special guys who know what they can do — what they can’t do – and find ways to be winners with that. Topping off what they have and then working to exceed it.

That’s part of the beauty of this game. There are so many ways to be successful and get the job done.

And when you as a player find the right way for you... it’s a thing of beauty.
