I'm not seeing anyone factor in all the 'not exactly jokes' from our insiders about Tyler. My quick take is that Tyler in a lesser role may have been having a greater impact on things than other staff thought he should. If you are an AC and your boss is listening to his (on staff) son more than to you... If your role recruiting high school players is being minimized, and coaching defense is given to some guy who doesn't get results most of the year and you have to clean it up for the tourney, what is left for you to hang your hat on? What do you point to in your head coach interview and say, 'I did that.' If you're an AD looking for an HC and you pull up Illinois game film, who are you going to see sitting next to Brad Underwood talking strategy with him on the bench? Not Chester Frazier.
Betting on yourself is never a "Beta move."
Edit to say that this isn't Tyler's fault, but it's a problem.
