Hansberry's biggest issue imo is that he's probably only 6'6 when you look at him standing next to TJ, Domask, and Ty last year.

And while only being 6'6 he's simply not mobile or fluid enough to guard out to the perimeter.

He seemed like a tough Baltimore type of player but just not really a fit in the modern game where 4s are perimeter players and he's too small to guard power conference 5s.

It's really early into his soph year and he saw limited action with us as a frosh. I think the shooting and D will come around and he'll be a much better player later this year, and will have a very solid 4 year career.

Had a back issue last year from what i remember, so just throw that season out the window.

(I missed this the first time around.)

I like Luke Goode. But if this statement is true. It’s both flattering to Luke’s game, and insulting to Ben’s much broader skill set.

Luke was a great Illini. Nice 3 point shooter. Not athletic but always gave 120% on defense and rebounding. Great team mate. Never complained about playing time. Good passer. I hope he is successful at IU, his dream school. He is playing less (14 mpg) than he did at Illinois (20 mpg). Only shooting 20% on 3pg (small sample size 3 games). 3 rbg.

Ben is also good 3 point shooter. Taller at 6'9". Also not super athletic but makes the effort on defense and rebounding. Playing 25 mpg 13 ppg 4 rbg. At this point shooting much better 45% 3pg. I wish Luke had stayed but Ben does same things and is taller. Probably gives us more upside.

Definitely don't need both Luke and Ben. Especially with addition of Will Riley. Little sad to see Luke and Ty get squeezed out. However Brad's job is to put best possible team on the court. Boswell, KJ, Ivisic, Humrichous and White/Riley is an upgrade over Harris, Goode, Dainja, Hansberry, Butler and Rogers. I am guessing KJ, Tomas and possibly Riley are one and dones.

Let’s not kid ourselves completely… Coleman caught a lot of grief from Illini fans, especially going into his senior year. But yes, he was warmly embraced for who he was and what he brought to the team. But I think K-State was expecting a grade-A scoring threat for their $2 million bucks.

Not former Illini, so not sure if this is meant to be here, but I just realized that AJ Storr is coming off the bench for the Jayhawks. That couldn't have been the case when he went there, right? It looks likes he's playing well and it's on the #1 team in the nation, but no way did he strike me as someone that was going to be okay with that.... Any info on this?

And holy, I didn't realize he has been to that many HS and colleges already. Wow....

I can't find the article but Self had called out him and another player for not getting on board w/KU culture. I believe it also referenced (lack of) sharing the ball and/or defense. I think we all should be happy that BU and co. allocated the NIL $ the way they did - even if Storr opting for KU wasn't necessarily "our decision." So far I think "missing" on him is working out for the best for us.

This makes sense because our insiders were stating the same things when things started to trend away from us during the process. Guessing BU had more hard convos with him than the KU staff....

Yes.

CoHawk was never a #1 scoring option here, why did they think he would be that there? Yes, his shooting has gotten off to a very rocky start, but interestingly his other stats are improved. He's averaging career highs in rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks. He was always the guy who contributes in a lot of ways, not the guy who scores in bunches. If that's not what they thought they were getting, they didn't do their research.

This is based on only 4 games into the season mainly against “buy games”opponents,Illinois stats are based on a whole season…..so I wouldn’t go that far about eye popping stats….

Yes, but those same "small sample size" issues also present themselves with shooting averages as well.

And again, this is always who he's been. He's never been the #1 scoring option. Heck, he's never even been the #2 scoring option. Last year he was actually 5th on the team in pts/40 min. Instead he was always a guy that did a lot of different things. So if they thought they were getting a pure scorer, that is on K-State for not doing their research.

If he showed another year of progress in shooting and scoring that he showed in each of the last two offseasons, he be getting something like 15ppg on 56% eFG%, which along with his 7rb and 4ast, KS would be very happy with. Maybe not $2M happy, but still.
Funny how much 3ppg would change the perception.
