Yeah, conceptually it’s decent. The colors are all like two shades too light, I think.
This looks significantly better to my eye

Our seal is good, it just needs to be on the flag with a light blue color instead of white. The seal ‘contains’ our current state flag design. Look at Washington States flag, coolest state flag out there. We just need to tweak our current state flag. Everything else looks cartoonish or a spin off of Chicagos city flag. Not to sound political, but with all the problems the state of Illinois has financially, this to me is a total waste of time and tax money we don’t have.

As someone who has lived in Washington for the past 12 years, I can't think of anyone locally who is actually a fan of the state flag. There have been campaigns of varying levels of success to redesign the flag here as well.

The State Seal is meant to be just that: a seal to appear on official documents. It's too detailed (as a seal should be) to provide what a flag needs from a distance: to be clearly legible and recognizable. It's why flags like Chicago's, DC's, Indianapolis', St. Louis', Colorado's and California's a great flags: they're recognizable without doing too much with script/detail.

Not all change is bad, and something that helps brand us better (think of all the merch sold with takes of the California, Colorado, and Chicago flags) can also lead to money coming in. Not directly from sales of that merch, but just from the buzz around wanting to visit and bring tourism dollars in.

I like the darker version of the fields, sky and sun flag, but I'm afraid the committee is going to botch this.

you can have the "coolest" flag under the sun, and if nothing else changes, 2x as many people will leave this state in the next 10 years as left in the past 10
it means NOTHING

I live in AZ, I think the AZ state flag is the coolest in the land, and by a wide margin. My neighbor across the street used to own a Baja Bug with an AZ state flag paint job, it was the bomb!

Ah yes, Iowa State’s famous black and white school colors. Why has this become a thing for them?
I did some research on this, and it doesn't look like Iowa State ever had black and white as school colors. The closest they came was when their original school colors were black, gold, and silver around the turn of the 20th century before they adopted the current cardinal and gold color scheme.

Maybe you can justify the black by pointing to the previous color scheme (and obviously how they would never adopt gold in that scheme given their in-state rivals). But otherwise, I don't really get it either. Sure, use the script "Cyclones" and the Jack Trice five stripes as secondary logos (I actually really like the five stripes logo). But the black and white just looks like what Paul Lukas (founder of UniWatch) called "black for black's sake".

Yep, excuse my hyperbole here, but ... it comes across as desperately insecure and self-hating when it comes to your own brand. Can you imagine Illinois de-emphasizing orange to this embarrassing of an extent because we superficially discovered one day that the color (in isolation) is not generally thought to be stylish?? Well, that would only be have as lame as this ... we'd have to ditch navy, as well, to reach this level of shame toward our literal team colors. :ROFLMAO:

On a related note, when we have these discussions about "chasing trends" vs. establishing a "classic look" for teams' uniforms, Iowa State has always stuck out in my head as a great example of why the former just doesn't work. They seem like the epitome of throwing random $hlt like this out there to see what sticks.

What gets me about this is that I actually like their cardinal and gold color scheme. It's maybe not quite as classic as Southern California's darker red, but it's not far off. Here's the cardinal (red) home uniform.

Here's a road uniform with gold pants. I don't see what would drive Iowa State away from this look. I think it's actually a good look with a classic color scheme (but I'd probably go with cardinal pants to match the helmet).

^ Oh, I definitely agree it's better than this black/white nonsense! However, my other point about Iowa State shines through in the other choices of their uniforms. Their letter and number font just scream "minimalist trendy" from the same era that gave us the awful 1LL1NO1S design, at least to me. They also serve as a stellar example to me of the unfortunate trend away from more complicated/ACTUAL logos toward boring letters. I mean, this is college sports ... quirky, traditional logos are as awesome as it gets. The difference between mid-2000s Iowa State and today's Iowa State is just sad to observe, haha.

Is that half bad for a block letter logo? No, it's decent. But I just get this sneaky vibe that Iowa State is constantly insecure about their very look, haha. Every new uniform, font and logo looks more minimalist and less "them." Now to the point where they don't even use school colors. :ROFLMAO:

Getting back on topic, are there any rumblings or leaks about Tuesday's uniform option yet? Since we should be the designated home team, still holding out hope for either all-orange or O/O/W with South Carolina wearing something like Garnet/Black/Garnet or all-black.

In my opinion, there’s a difference between a once-yearly change and what Iowa State is doing. Illinois never wore the “ghost” uniforms more than once a season, and they clearly said they were a nod to the “Galloping Ghost” legacy. This is at least the second time Iowa State has worn this setup this year, and I think it’s the third time.

What Iowa State is doing is more like when Illinois tried those silver basketball uniforms that were a really bad idea.

I'm really surprised they didn't do grey with orange on the football side of things. The grey basketball uniforms with orange accents were at least somewhat recognizable as Illinois, even though they weren't great overall. I would have found a way to get some subtle orange into the Galloping Ghost set.

I would love to see O/O/W or O/W/B ... but I feel like there is a 90%+ possibility that we are going to choose to wear O/W/O with the slant ILLINOIS helmet, haha. My wish list would be:

1. O/W/B with the arched ILLINI helmet
2. O/O/W with the arched ILLINI helmet
3. O/B/O with the slant ILLINOIS helmet (this remains the only jersey color where we haven't seen slant ILLINOIS)

Stone me if you have too, those Gray Ghost are my Illini football jerseys. Navy and gray/silver are a classic color combo. However I did a quickie photoshop that added a microscopic bit of orange to them.

Also I think grey would be a great alternative road jersey color, like MLB does.

Im with you for the most part. I do not dig the white helmet.
Love the added orange accents.
