Given the packed attendance at Ohio State, Texas, Penn State, and Notre Dame I think the first round on campus sites is here to stay even if it makes the games way less competitive and really bad for road team fans who were not allowed to buy tickets

That's a joke of a roughing the passer call to void an interception. The QB doesn't want a DL to land on him, don't jump into him as he's tackling you

This is the same team that beat top 4 Alabama. I'm not sure it's a talent thing necessarily. They just look completely shellshocked today. Unprepared to play.
Tennessee deserved to be in the CFP, not saying they didn't. I never pegged them as an actual National Championship contender but that's besides the point.

Refs trying to keep TN in it. No def PI on int despite hugging Smith beforehand, and no way is that a late hit on OSU int
I thought that was pretty clear PI on that last play of the drive. These refs aren't quite having as bad a game as Tennessee, but they're not exactly putting on a clinic out there. But yeah. Tennessee has benefitted from the majority of their mistakes so far.

If the SEC had to play bowl games in cold weather (say the national title game was at Soldier Field or Lambeau) every year, the perception that they are the super best conference ever would go away quickly

Tennessee fans managed to get 30,000 into horseshoe

Their team is letting them down but their fans showed there is a way to get tickets if you are passionate enough. Their football fans remind me of our Krush back in the day invading opposing Carver-Hawkeye and others.

You mean buying tickets from Ohio State season ticket holding scalpers?

This whole debate is interesting, but I think it’s simply circling the root cause of the entire conversation.

Someone else just posted about weight class, and I think that’s a good way to put it.

Indiana beat nobody this year but had 11 nobodies so they get in with 11-1. That doesn’t mean they are bad, however, just that they took care of business against the nobodies.

Each year, I bet there are maybe 4-7 teams with legit shots to win it all. Like, truly a chance based on talent, depth, and coaching. Those teams are in the top weight class and it’s unsure where the cutoff is each year.

This year, after the first two games, it’s looking at LEAST like the cutoff is around 8 teams. (Pending the results of tonight, so it may be lower)

The point is IU belonged in the 12 team playoff based on metrics and resume simply because somebody has to fill spots 9-12.

That doesn’t mean they were ever a legit threat to win it all. Seems to be the same with SMU and the jury is out on Boise, ASU, and Clemson.

Bottom line, did they belong? Yes and no.

Yes inside the 12 team playoff.
No because they were playing in a weight class they simply can’t compete in.

Which begs the true question, did the CFP expand too much? Maybe 8 SHOULD have been the number. It’d get rid of Cinderella stories but would that be possible in CFB anyway? This first weekend is pointing towards no so far.
8 has always been the answer.

Wonder how Allstate and ESPN are feeling about all the money they paid to sponsor and broadcast a bunch of unwatchable games?
To use baseball terms, we're in the bottom of the first inning at this point. This first round isn't what ESPN paid for nor invested in. The Oregon/OSU Rose Bowl, and ND/Georgia Sugar Bowl will bring in monster numbers.

From what I read, they also found a code that was meant to only go out to OSU fans to buy tickets and bought those tix at face value, then shared the code with other UT fans who bought up more

And then of course bought more on the secondary market

However they did it, I like it as someone who would do the same thing for Illinois if we were ever in this position

I think I could have done better than that and I'm old as dirt and have sciatica in my kicking leg LOL

Yeah I don’t think I have ever seen a college kicker barely make the end zone on a FG attempt
