Welp, in the post game presser Brad placed the blame on himself for the horrendous defensive effort today. Lick your wounds get back to practice and get back on track. Our defense is built on forcing opposing team to take tough and long 2s. Today that scheme went out the fricking window and we let one player go nuclear against us again.

LOL overreaction of the day

Lol...which part was the overreaction? One of the worst home losses I've watched? Or the absolutely embarrassing effort?

Because we didn't just lose to a Quad 3 team at home for the first time ever...we got torched by 10 points. We were out rebounded by the 260th P5 team with a negative rebound margin. At home. And we were the #1 rebounding team in the nation.

Maybe you don't know what overreaction means.

I think this is gonna help in the long run. No gimmies. Have to bring it every day, home or away, early or late, good teams or not, full lineup or not. Brad can use this as tape for the rest of the season.

Just sucks right now, but we beat Indiana and all will be good.
It might help us play better in the short run and show up more prepared, but in no way shape or form does this loss help at all. It's going to be a huge black mark on our resume when the committee evaluates our tournament position at the end of the season.

Um yes exactly the part where you said one of the worst home losses. We lost to an underachieving USC team. Is this your first season watching Illini basketball?

Did the Maryland loss last year in January effect our seeding?

When your offense is predicated on high ball screens and your wizard at such is on the bench, a set play would be handy.

I don't mind all the three's... It's all the off-balanced bad three's that kill us. Especially in transition with no rebounders in sight.

Bam tried to do too much today. Period. He had shooters open in the corners at times and j.u.s.t. k.e.p.t. d.r.i.b.b.l.i.n.g.

Sorry, but the dunk at the end is not as bush league than leaving your starters in when up 30 points with 3 minutes to play IMO.

Update: Claude just hit another bucket on a big man...

Positive: our inbounding has improved night and day

Um..ok..so it's reading comprehension then.

Exactly!!! I'm not too worried the team won't recover and play much better during the season. The effort was evidently very lacking today.... But this is a horrible resume loss and will drop us down potentially 2 seed lines alone. It will stick out like a sore thumb come March

You’re gonna have days like this when you shoot 38% from the field. What was most disappointing was not being able to get 2 stops in a row. Wondering if Ty would of made a difference today

Maybe I'm the only one who thinks this way but I never fully bought in to Boswell and I constantly question his shot selection and inability to finish at the rim.
In the end, I think he's very valuable. The long three's were great against Duck. Not so great today.

Getting to the rim, running the point and dishing some assists are things he does well. But, as you rightly point out, he has trouble finishing. And it's frustrating.

In the Oregon game, he missed 2/3 easy layup in a row and I'm having images of Curbello, but then later, he made a great assist and hit like 2 huge 3-pointers in a row to pull away from Duck. And his defense is very good.

Be consistent, I guess.

Bummer of a game. Had all the makings of a let down. Missing our star. Coming off heels of a dominant win. 11 am start. Still a bummer.

Biggest disappointment for me was Kylan. Although he had some good moments defensively, he picked up some silly fouls which took him out of the game, and we didn’t have anyone else who could check Claude. Plus 6 turnovers and at least 3-4 bad, out of rhythm 3s which led to runouts so we’re just as bad as TOs.

With our youth, I figured we would stub our toes a few too many times to win the BIG, and so wasn’t shocked with the loss. And USC looked good. Can see why they’ve given so many good teams a game. I predict this will be a Q2 loss by end of the season.

Need to regroup and get Kasparas healthy, come out and handle the Hoosiers and Sparty.

Is there any documented philosophy on how to defend ball screens and rolls? The team needs to seek it out if so. This has been a consistent issue for us for some time. Claude goes for 31 against us today. Season high for him. That should never happen, yet it does several times each season. Sometimes it is a role player, today it was a bona fide offensive leader. But, whatever the case, somebody please figure it out.
Ask Hamer ;)

Just didn’t show up today . Looked lethargic. Really poor shot selection. Out rebounded. Unforced turnovers. No noticeable adjustments. Morning start time. Did I miss anything?

I told you guys at the beginning of the year that this team will lose 10+ games and at the most make the Sweet16. This team doesn't have a lock down defender especially on the wing/forward position. Ty Rodgers could have solved that issue. This team is reminiscent of the 22-23 team that was really young and that inexperience will show throughout the year. This team will have some more bad losses as the season goes on.
