Just to interject a bit more positivity here ... the announcers were talking about how this was the ninth straight win in Champaign vs. Northwestern, but I think there is a much more meaningful stat we should throw out there. Thanks to our win yesterday, the last time Northwestern Basketball swept the season series vs. the Illini was the 1966-67 season. The sentence below should be read considering the fact that we went through ridiculously AWFUL stretches in the 1970s and from 2012-2019 by this program's standards. But if you are a Northwestern basketball fan...

... you have watched at least one loss to the Illini for 58 years in a row.

I wonder how many people here that put down young men and blame the coach for "quitting" at the end of the game are at work as they post ?? If you are on the clock, shouldn't you be the all mighty god of work and not on a website for banter? I would be willing to bet the same people b***hing about young men quitting early also have shut down their production at work early to clock out. Why are you never happy? If we won by 25 would you think differently of these young men? I would hate to live life knowing I had to be 100% focused and on point every single minute I'm on the clock....maybe we can implement labor laws to protect ourselves...WAIT...I know, let's say we need a paid ten minute break!!! People relax sometimes while working...EVERY. SINGLE. PERSON. Can't complain about paying the players , if we are not willing to treat them as employees. Can you imagine if every single time a regular employee made a mistake they would scream FIRE HIS/HER BOSS!!! shrugs maybe I should just be thankful I can enjoy the University of Illinois sports for what they are.

Actually, if you look at the play by play, no turnover was recorded for the ending where he put the ball on the floor. If the NW player had taken a shot, I expect the game statistician would have had to list it as a turnover and shot, but as it was, it was ignored. (I would have too).
Thank you. Yes. After my initial thought, someone brought up that it was offensive indifference or something to that effect, which makes more sense than a normal turnover.

To be fair, NW has gone through ridiculously mediocre stretches from 1950-2017 (where they never made the tourney). I had to look, but to get an indication of how mediocre NW is as a B1G basketball program, Northwestern does not have one coach to leave the program with a winning record going back to 1950. The only coach to coach more than 100 games at Northwestern and leave with a winning record was Dutch Lonborg.

Northwestern kept Bill Carmody around for 13 seasons, and he finished with a record of 192-210. Collins is now in his 12th season and has a record of 190-182 (3 NCAA appearances), and is widely recognized as the best modern coach for Northwestern. In addition, Collins has three winning B1G seasons, whereas none of his predecessors going back to 1968 were able to have one season with a winning conference record. Just a testament to how mediocre Northwestern was as a basketball program before Collins took the reigns in Evanston.

Yeah, its a nerd school with terrible facilities, almost zero investment from their administration, located in a city that forgets it even exists half the time.

I'm honestly surprised every season we *dont* sweep them at this point.

I feel a little sick saying it, but I respect the job that Collins has done, a little bit. I now need to go vomit, thank you.

But that is kind of my point - our awful stretches are not representative of a baseline, as we have more often than not had way more success than those stretches. And even THEN, they could never get the sweep in!

I’ll be honest… I’ve been known to check Loyalty a few times on my phone while attending games in person. Is that bad?? Always during timeouts or halftime.

Depends on the quality of what you're posting.

Never change loyalty message board!! We win a game or lose a game. You’re never satisfied lol. I love this team and love this program. I’ve lived through a lot of bad years and cheered through some of the best years. But I will say some of your opinions are laughable. I’ll leave it at that. And if you’re offended or upset about my post. Maybe you’re the problem. 😁
Not offended at all. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Enough people have told me now that I was overly cranky and negative and the message has gotten through. Sincere, not snark. I apologize to those bothered.

I am happy that we played though the various illnesses, the next man up stood up and played his butt off, the refs were reasonable throughout, and that we won.

*had more points than the other team at the end of regulation.

Fixed that for you, since apparently these are no longer synonymous.

I was in the Krush 10 years ago, cheering on .500 basketball teams, essentially. We had a far greater impact on the games than these students have had this season. How does this get fixed?
Make them leave their phones in the crush area?
