This is kinda what I'm wondering. Would Underwood go into full "dad protect" mode? Would he prefer to move to a program like Oklahoma if they agree to let him bring Tyler along? Again, these things won't happen, but I'm really curious to see how it would play out if Whitman tries to force him to drop his son and Hamer.

Brad’s agent has been communicating with other programs already … And not just one or two programs either …

Now is this Brad telling him to do so ?? Idk … Because he does this every year …

But some of these programs that I know they’re talking to are not an “upgrade” …

I don’t want to see Brad go, but the quality of candidates we can choose from this time around is light years ahead of who we thought we could get last time.

And of course the X factor JW.

One NCAA tournament in five seasons and at serious risk of making that 1-for-6. Hasn't been in the Elite Eight in ten seasons. Only Sean's mother loves him more than this message board.

Let’s not act like Sean didn’t assemble that 2021-2022 team at Arizona … Those were all of his players …

You’re including the COVID year when no one made the tournament … He would’ve made it that year …

But fine here’s your argument …

First year at Xavier … Sweet 16 … 27 wins …

Last year … They lost 2 starters for the season … One being their best player … In July … Had to bring in 3 international guys just to try and compete …

This year … Lost another starter and had their best player miss a month again …

He’s proven he can recruit kids … Globally … He puts kids in the NBA … He’s won 71% of his games …

I’m not saying he’s the greatest coach in the world and I honestly think Beard would do better here than Sean would … But to say Sean isn’t a lateral move at worst ??? Crazy …

I disagree….Miller has a better overall head coaching record than Underwood and also a better record in March Madness…we wouldn’t lose out on recruiting either, maybe even improve…if he brings Cohen with him…and keeps OA, that‘s straight 🔥.

I'm probably gonna get hammered on this take , but here goes....

Been a fan since the Nick Weatherspoon days. I'm seeing real similarities between Underwood and Henson. Both are/were great recruiters and field/fielded extremely talented teams. Simply put, neither of them are/were x's and o's coaches who can make adjustments during the games. Lou would drive me crazy as waved his arm around telling his teams to "run the offense" while they continued to play street ball. Brad talks about an "offense" while his players chuck up off balance threes at a record pace , many of them off balance and rushed due to the shot clock. Both coaches did not (as of yet) hire assistant coaches that could help with this. This has led to losing games to teams with far, far, less talent. (See: Lou NCAA's 87 Austin Peay, 90 Dayton, and BU NCAA's 21 Loyola Chicago, numerous B10 games this season)

JMHO opinion..... Lou could have had at least (2) National Championships if they had run basic offensive and defensive schemes. Brad missed a good chance at a Natty with his 20-21 team. It's not to late if he hires the right staff to support him......... (Tyler isn't part of it)

ILL!!

A really great list. We are in a great position as a program.

That being said, what’s the general consensus on the future of some of the other names that have been tossed around. Todd Golden, Nate Oats, Otz, etc.?

If he comes back again asking for a raise this year you just call his bluff and let him walk to a Miami or wherever.

And hopefully that happens and they can lockdown Beard before he goes to Indiana.

I like Brad, and I would love to have him succeed with us for the rest of his career. But if he is really interested in finding another job, whether that is a place like UNC or KU, or a lateral at best move where he just thinks the grass is greener, then I won't lose any sleep at night. Same if he refuses to change his coaching staff. It sounds like Josh is ready to go all out to bring in an awesome replacement, and I am all for it. Josh absolutely knows what he is doing, and I am ready to enthusiastically support whoever he thinks is the best man to lead Illinois men's basketball for the rest of the decade. He did very well in hiring Brad, and he has absolutely hit huge home runs with Bret and Shauna. We are in good hands, and that feels absolutely great.

Josh has demanded staff changes before … It got done and it brought us the best X&O coach we’ve had …
In the NIL era, it would make sense to strive for proven X&O coaches now more than ever. The value in recruiting strengths seems to be more diminished now that boosters can have more transparent influence. I’m certain that Josh knows that rebuilding is a lot easier in this era too, if Brad goes elsewhere. I know people are scarred by the Groce era but it’s not happening again with Josh in charge.
