This is true … DeVries also knew where he stood with IU …

This wouldn’t have leaked publicly that DeVries was no longer under consideration unless the deal was done IMO … Which is what I was told yesterday and verified early this AM …
This has to speak to some pathetically bad NIL at Iowa. If I’m from Iowa and I grew up an Iowa fan, I’m thinking twice before walking into the revolving door of delusional expectations and pressure that is Indiana Basketball in the modern era.

I always thought he was a great guy, good x/o s guy, but couldn’t recruit. In retrospect I can see he had some bad luck and not much support here. If he got another try at a big job, I would root for him.
Groce seemed like a nice guy. My take is he's got a nice comfortable gig and should stay put unless the ego says he has to try again.

His starting game plans were decent; the lack of adjustments got us crushed in the second half. I remember him saying in an interview near the end that he just goes with the game plan. That included things like substitution patterns, not taking into account the hot hand on either side. This may work in the Ohio Valley. It didn't work against top tier opposing coaches.

Groce teams had all sorts of discipline problems. Friend vs. coach attitude? The players seemed to ignoring his in game instructions with no consequences. He just kept playing his best players. Benching players when they started to play hero ball may have resulted in a few more wins.

Without any justification, I'd always guessed that the recruiting losses were because he didn't do any form of under the table payments. The strife between him and some of the Chicago AAU coaches didn't help (due to lack of "payment"?).

I don’t understand your point but yes. For instance, Purdue would be a comparable for Illinois and they play on Keady court and Keady never even made a Final Four.
I always bring it up because it testifies to the program's expectations. If I work at a company and they put up a shrine to a long-tenured decent employee and they tell me I'm on the hotseat for not bringing them a national award, I'd point to the shrine and ask why am I held to a higher standard than him? If we're not just content with postseason appearances, why do we celebrate one of the worst postseason-performing coaches of all time?

And Purdue's given Painter 20 years and stuck with him through some bad ones in the middle of his tenure, lows that Underwood has yet to see since he began his tenure.

I was fearing Indiana would go after former Minnesota and Current New Mexico Lobo coach, Richard Pitino. Thank goodness for another bad hire and waste of 10 million in NIL. Good hire, Loosiers

If I were West Virginia I would give the AS head coach his first opportunity. Chester has earned it. Then Chester should hire Tim Anderson as AS head coach, which he deserves. Bring Morez along to play with Hansberry. OMG. Watch out. I'm sure between Coach Frazier and Anderson they'll bring in right players for their system and be dominant. Just me thinking outside of the box. JMO.

Chester won’t be coming back …

Part of the reason he left was because Hamer was running the defense …
So when do you think you can get in Brad’s ear to “kindly” suggest that the Hamer experiment needs to end asap? Please don’t say he’s tone deaf to such an obviously change that is needed. Pretty please 🥺 🙏

Devries certainly has a great resume but it looks like Bruce Weber to me. 20 year assistant. Success in the Valley. Then a power 5 job. I’m honestly surprised Indiana couldn’t get a coach with a FF on their resume like Beard/Stevens/Wright. But Kentucky couldn’t either. Neither could Louisville. The blue bloods of college basketball appear a thing of the past

I’m interested to see if Frazier/Hansberry/Harris all follow him to IU
Stevens and Wright are no longer college basketball coaches, and not wanting Beard as the face of your program is easily understandable.

Healthy organizations celebrate and try to codify values in addition to results. I think the boss at your hypothetical company would point out the long-tenured employee was a beloved guy who did lots of things that were positive and hard to quantify, and you are not.

More than 1 insider have said it's only Kwa as of now 😭

Kwa was elevated as a temporary assistant coach … He’s going to be placed back into the role that was he was hired to do …

That gives us 1 opening …

As far as Hamer goes … I’ve said it on here before that I expect transition there … But just because I expect it doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll happen …

Brad hasn’t sat down and figured that out yet … Focused on the tournament …

So then Brad Underwood's potential firing isn't being discussed because of results, it's because he failed to do the positive, hard-to-quantify thngs? Tell me, what's the ratio of results to positivity in terms of value here? John Groce brought an awful lot of positivity.

Noone else seems to care or want to touch this but what in the world happened between Cronin and the University that he would consider leaving the blue skies of Southern California (and more importantly In and Out) for Cincinnati and skyline chili? Or Morgantown and Tudors Biscuit World?

I didn't love my time in SoCal as much as most do...but I can't imagine scratching and clawing my way out of John Wooden's house just to take a Tier B job with 2 million in NIL..
He probably can no longer afford insurance.

We can use your analogy.

If your employer gave you top 15 resources and top 15 salary and held you to a standard of current employees/programs with similar pay/resources and you said no boss I want to be held to a standard of an employee 40-50 years ago who was employed under completely different standards your employer would say no.

Underwood is being graded by the U of I by the return the U of I is getting from the (significant) resources he is being given. BTW, I’m not even providing an opinion on that grade. I’m just telling you how he is being graded. But I will say this, our basketball investment is at an all time high which raises the expectations of the program.
