Steele on 15 Day DL. Elbow Tendonitis. Not Good.
Still Waiting No GIF

We can't have nice things...

If we had a proactive GM/Owner, we'd go out and trade for Alcantara, since that's what the deadline move should be, and that would help us ideally stay in first place in the hardest part of the schedule.

Tommy is worried about breaking even though, so probably won't even be a thought.

That sucks. But for those asking why Cubs signed Rea — ummm, maybe for situations like this.
We have a lot of starting pitcher depth. Keller could probably be stretched out too with Assad coming back soon as well. What we need is a TOR guy so Steele and Imanaga are 2 and 3 starters. Only way you're beating a team like the Dodgers in a series.

Well that ain’t happening, at least for awhile. And we don’t want Keller starting. Hasn’t been under 4.50 ERA and 1.40 WHIP since 2020. Rea was decent just last year.

Your mouth to God's ears......and while you're talking to him ask for a closer.

I have a hard time with the argument that Imanaga is not a TOR guy. He was 3rd in the NL in Wins (7th in MLB), ERA (5th in MLB), WHIP (7th in MLB), etc. in 2024.

He has done nothing so far that would indicate those numbers being a fluke... If he isn't a #1, how many of them are there? Half a dozen? That sort of goes against the definition...

Is it because he isn't 6'5" and throwing 98?

Imanaga is still a little bit of an unknown. He had such high HR and fly ball numbers in Japan and he avoided a barrage of home runs last year. But as I was typing this, he just gave up a HR to Seager on a day where it should be a terrible day to hit at Wrigley.

Personally, I don't think a team with the Cubs' resources should be counting on Imanaga as a #1. He was projected as a 3 or 4 coming over, and he's out performed that, but it's still not long enough to give the league time to adjust to him. These first 3 batters are kind of why... 2 warning track fly outs and a HR on a day where it's 32 at wrigley. Any summer day and it's likely 3-0 with 3 straight HR to start the game.

Our schedule has been brutal. We do get to play against the NL central at some point, right?

Not until the very end of the month/beginning of May when they travel to Pittsburgh and Milwaukee. First series against the Cardinals isn't until the end of June when they play a 4 game series at Busch. First series at Wrigley is 4th of July weekend.

Needed this laugher win. Hope Suzuki isn't going to miss 2 months as is his tradition since the Cubs signed him.

I think Steele, once healthy will need to come out of the BP. Put him with Pressly, Hodge or whomever we have next year in the back end would be solid. Pressly in the 7th, Steele in the 8th and Hodge slamming the door. Steele cannot stay healthy to be a long inning guy. It worked for Eck and Smoltz.

Pretty guaranteed the first doctor said the issue will continue inflaming without the surgery and they're asking someone else to see if they agree. We need to go out and get Alcantara.
Surgery for Steele.

1. Imanaga
2. Boyd
3. Taillon
4. Ben Brown
5. Colin Rea

Yeah, I know our division is pathetic, but this is troubling. Small market level rotation with what the Cubs make in revenue is embarrassing.

The Marlins traded Arraez at the beginning of May last year. They can make that May trade again this year with Alcantara for Alacantara and we'll throw in Ballesteros. (Is that enough?....Rojas/Cruz?)

If this is a make or break year for Hoyer he's on the phone to Miami right now.
