He shot us out of some games last year … These 3 really stick out in my mind …

1-9 against NW … Lost in OT
0-7 against Nebraska … Lost in OT
0-6 against MSU … Lost by 15

And he went 0-4 from 3 against Xavier in the tourney …

I don’t think he’s a bad shooter and I’ve seen him make a bunch in practice … He just doesn’t know when to stop shooting when it isn’t his night …
And his head coach tells him to keep chucking…. I swear to god I had a dream the other day that I won the Powerball. Went straight to Josh’s office and said here’s 20 M’s for NIL to build a title roster under one condition… No.More.Brickhouse.

He doesn’t know when to stop of the staff tells him to keep chucking…

At minimum he’s gotta have a wildly quick hook if he misses a few early.

Find it shocking that Ben would want to return after some of the turmoil during the season. I know he felt the heat from the fanbase and returning for less money and a lesser role is head scratching.

To be fair I would say most players especially shooters, don't know when to stop and chalk it up to a bad night.

Also not a fan of BH but this particular trait isn't unique

BenH discourse is truly the worst look for this board and Illinois fandom. I get the whole, "he's getting paid and therefore shouldn't be treated like a kid," but he truly is a kid. One who was most likely doing exactly what Brad was telling him to do.

Say your opinion on it once and move on. We need to get away from the straight up slandering of players on our team.

#107
Doesn't that kinda fall on Brad/Tyler? IIRC, it was them that wanted him to keep shooting and stated that's why he's out there... Or was that just the line for the reasoning he was playing over Rez at that point?

#ShootersShoot! :ROFLMAO:

Either way … Ben isn’t a fit … And like I said yesterday if Tyler’s scheme is chuck 3s that’s fine whatever … Personally - I may not agree with it but if that’s the scheme then fine …

Just go get freaking Monsanto … A guy who can actually do it !!!!

This is my take too. 34% on the season isn't terrible (aint great either) but given that 75% of his shots were 3s, he doesn't give you a whole lot elsewhere and was getting 25+ mpg (30+ in many cases) you need him to hit at a 40% clip. Can't have multiple 0/1-5+ against league competition

Good morning.

Question in regards to new arrivals. Any clarity on Mirkovic’s target date to be on campus? Hoping for the start of summer workouts.

I’d hope that Zvonimir, Wagler, and Lee will be on campus early June.

I believe it’s massive to have the squad together early in the summer. Obstacles last year provided some challenges. Hoping details can be straightened out early.

Go Illini

Have not seen anything on us getting a visit from Ian Jackson just chatted on twitter about him leaving St Johns without a public commitment and that a decision would be coming fairly soon...

Roster still has so many holes in terms of just being able to compete in the top 8 of th B1G let alone being a tournament team.

Extremely surprised we have not at the minimum seen coaching staff changes no matter how minor.

Sarr adds to the overall roster ceiling but to everyone's points we need old, role players to round this roster out. The fact we are still debating if Ben has a role on this team shows how down we are feeling about portal at this point.

Especially looking at the rest of the B1G... we are behind.

If this board had been around in 2005: “YOU CAN’T GET TO THE FINAL FOUR WITH JACK INGRAM ON THE TEAM!!!!!!!!”
I highly doubt that, I remember Jack Ingram being pretty universally loved. Also Jack Ingram got 9 mpg and 15 mpg in his 2 Illini seasons. Humrichous got 26 mpg, and I'm pretty sure over the first half of the season it was around 31 mpg. It was his inadequacies on the court that forced those minutes to come down.

THAT is the problem many have with Humrichous. If you look at per minutes played stats, he was clearly our worst player. If he's on the court, by definition someone else is not. Early in the season when he was taking the minutes of a likely 1st round draft pick, that was insane. When he was taking the minutes of Morez who was an elite rebounder, that was crazy, and contributed to us losing Morez.

If Humrichous was getting 15 mpg off the bench, you wouldn't hear a heck of a lot about him. In fact, you could hear the opposite. I'm not a big DGL fan, but he certainly has his fans here. Similar to the backup QB syndrome, if you played him things would be better, with no real proof that would actually be the case.

That is why many are now saying if he's a role player fine, but if he get's 20+ mpg, if he comes back because we are struggling to land a replacement, that's not going to be good Bob.

sounds like Neel Ganta is completely useless then if these 2 have the most weight on roster moves.

Omg, get this garbage out of here.

If Ben Humrichous plays 15 mpg, shoots 48% from the field and 40% from 3 and plays the game like Jack, I’ll buy you your favorite bottle of whisky and send it with a handwritten apology.

visiting Georgia today.
you mean to tell me we cant get a visit in over UGA?

its getting pretty annoying. Sarr better be an all big 10 player as a freshman if hes the highest paid player on the team. which goes against staying old...

none of this makes sense.

#116
People act like Humrichous shot 18% from three last season I swear.
In games we lost by less than 10 in the regular season, he shot 19% on 6 attempts per game. (Kentucky game is excluded, but he did not attempt a 3 in that game)

1/9 @ Northwestern
1/4 vs. Tennessee
1/3 @ Michigan St.
0/7 @ Nebraska
3/8 @ Rutgers

Maybe that's what's sticking out in people's minds. In close games he was notoriously bad.

From speculation, seems north of 5mil, but I would be ecstatic.

IJ - ~3 mil
DS - ~2.5 mil
AM - ~1 mil

Rumor is we have around 6 mil to spend, so not out of the question. Need to close on someone sooner than later.

I think this should tell you everything you need to know about the Ian Jackson recruitment: he visited USC prior to a multi-day visit with St. John's. The Illini staff reached out to schedule a visit soon after that. Instead, he's trying to plan a visit to Georgia. I think it's probably Sarr or mystery future portal guy at this point (for the big $$$ transfer).

I get what you’re saying. 34% from 3 isn’t terrible. What was terrible was his fg from inside the arc. For a 6’9 forward to have an overall FG of 37% is really bad. Couple that with his inability to rebound and his subpar defense thus you don’t have a very good big ten player

I don’t disagree with the majority of this sentiment but he’s 22… that’s an adult. You reprimand coworkers no matter their age when they perform poorly at work. He’s essentially making a salary to do a job. I think the criticism is warranted.

That being said, attacks or threats against him is completely and utterly out of line, full stop. And to say he was the singular problem with his own performance is also just plain incorrect.

USC is involved heavily with Jackson and rumor is he’s taking an SEC visit soon …

Bingo … Bigger stage … Brighter lights …

He cost us wins … If those 6 games are wins how different does the season look ? It’s obviously not just Ben contributing to wins or losses but if he shot 40% like many on here suggest he can do … I’d be willing to bet half of those at minimum aren’t losses …

Subpar defense is being nice. He is one of the worst defenders I’ve seen in an Illinois jersey
