I'd even argue its far more important for lower usage players to limit mistakes if they want playing time. If KJ commits 6 turnovers, he still comes out and plays 35 minutes the next game and the game after that and the game after that. Ben is merely a connector on offense who will shoot open 3s (though he is often involved in PnR actions). Players like that have little margin for mistakes. If Ben were to commit a bunch of turnovers, he'd come out and Jake - or pick anyone - would come in to the game.

Anyhow, I'm ready to put this to bed. I never said it was most important statistic on planet Earth, but its also far from pointless or meaningless.

Ben averaged 3.8 reb per game last year. 7th on the team despite being 6-9 and 5th in minutes. He was not comfortable last year with his role and level of competition, and it showed. 1 putback does not make him a good rebounder.
Hopefully he will be better next season playing ~12-15 mpg and shooting ~40% from 3 while trying hard on defense and having a few rebounds bounce to him.

I actually thought his rebounding could be MUCH better all season. I just thought it was funny to say someone "can't rebound at all" when they can do that... lol

I believe you are correct. We have 9 deep or 10 depending on Lee. We really have limited minutes in the back court/SF position with As/Bam,Petro,Jake,Ty and Lee. It would be hard to squeeze anyone else in. We have similar with the front court with the Twins, BH, Mirk with minutes for Ty as well. I like the balance we have here. One more thing Narrow, you have great in site on here. Just saying

Sorry your feelings were hurt. Feel free to ignore, as you have already done to most of the opposing arguments written ad nauseum here.

Please go back and rewatch the games because very rarely did he wildly miss on shots. Part of the reason why BH's season was so frustrating is that almost all of his shots were not far off from being makes. If he was airballing or hitting the side of the backboard there's no way he would have still had the gtren light.

I seem to have missed all the Ben but had an observation to make about his defensive rebounding (since his offensive rebound numbers were pretty good). If you watch him on defense, when the ball goes into the air, he is focused on putting his body on someone and blocking out. Unlike Morez or some others, he does not crash the boards when on defense. He may not get the rebound, but the guy he is guarding does not often get it. This is fundamentally sound, at least in the way I was taught to play the game 50 or 60 years ago. So when I see that his defensive rebounding numbers are not great, that statistic is not as meaningful to me. Kind of like turnover rate - must be taken in context, which I am sure the coaching staff does (and which is why he got the playing time he did).
And one other issue, there are a number of people who continue to insist he couldn't shoot - he and Jake were basically tied for second place in 3pt % last year. If Ben couldn't shoot - that is a real diss on everyone else but Tomi. Ben had a couple of horrendous games where he went like 0-8 when he had good looks for the most part. I think those games are seared into the fan's memories. 34.8% is not a bad shooter - to be a 40% shooter would have meant he would have made one more three every 3 or 4 games or so - not really that big of a difference and not something that would be impossible for him to do this coming year after having adjusted to better defense.
I am on the Ben bandwagon for next year. His D drastically improved over the year, he knows the system, he will likely shoot better, and he will have had a full year plus of Fletch and to work with staff on the deficiencies in his game. Maybe Mirk turns out great, but until I see it with my own eyes, I will expect Ben to get 20 min per game or more on average.

I agree 100% that Ben COULD BE a valuable asset for the 25-26 season. But I want him to earn his minutes. There is nothing like an experienced and talented veteran motivated to be the best he can be in his last season....believe me. But he has to improve his shot selection, his % at booty ball fades, and his defense. Turnstile type defense was his Achilles heel that will not get minutes unless he can hit 45%+ from the arc.

And yet, how many guys his size are better shooters? Or rebounders? Or willing to do anything to help their team win. Don't think for a second that BU does not see his value...or his detriment. We just don't know which will show up consistently....but the gamble is worth it.

Maybe this has been answered previously, but do we expect any uptick in focus on HS recruits now that the extra 5th year players have cycled through? Or is it still, get old, stay old (if you can)?
