83 Ohio State????
Great win (also homecoming - I was there). Great season. But I guess we’re building something and after last week a second loss might really make recruits etc question us. Today solidified us as a solid program.

Indeed. People can say, boy that surely was close. But shoulder hits ground then ball pops out. Ref should've blown the play dead and didn't. Replay official should've overturned it and didn't. There is little question in my mind if our jersey said Michigan or USC, or hell, even Indiana apparently that call gets overturned.

And little talked about but the refs were somehow 3yds off on the spot of the final run by Feagin that would've given us a first down and allowed us to spot the ball in the middle of the field for Olano instead of making it 4th and 1 from the hash.

Plain and simple if you want to beat a brand name you have to be at least 10pts better than them because like it or not, that's about what they get spotted. And thankfully we were 12pts better than them today :)
That play was eerily similar to McCray’s “fumble”in the Citrus Bowl. Thankfully, Bret has a team that seems play harder in the face of such bias.

I went to school in the 1980s - Eason/Trudeau/Rose Bowl. Long time season ticket holder. This is arguably the greatest victory of my lifetime. Never was there a more important game nor a more important stage than today. Our dear old Illinois.
I have to agree. I was at all the games from 1971-1985 and saw the big 83 wins against Michigan and OSU. This one was so important because we could’ve tanked after last weekend. Totally lost our will. We “might” capitalize on this and finish strong with 8+ wins. Something not achieved after 1983. Heck of a job by Bielima this week getting the players heads out of a severe funk.

A few more thoughts from the game:
1) Lunney was in his bag all game. I really felt like he called a balanced game, with excellent pace and flow.
2) Establishing the run like that- Big Ten flipping football.
3) How about showing up finally for a big time game and atmosphere with a lot of people watching and have that kind of crowd, Fox Big Noon Kickoff and Barstool.
4) David Olano- he's going to be an NFL kicker.
5) USC's defense is pretty bad. I know we had a really good game offensively, but man, USC sure helped the cause.
6) Hard not to think about what our secondary could've been with Clarke and a healthy Scott. He clearly brings some tenacity that our secondary needs. Hopefully a healthy Patterson, Bailey, and Scott will make us better back there.

Ps: Can we please hold onto the dang ball?
PPS: Giving up 8/14 on 3rd down and 4/5 on 4th, and two or three of those 3rd downs were 3rd and 16, it just can't happen. We have to be better.

I’ll take last week’s debacle if it meant beating SC.

Born and raised in Southern California as an illini fan with my second favorite team being whoever usc was playing that day… never liked sc. my dad played for the illini against them in the 70s, my parents went to the ‘89 game and almost got in a fight with some SC fans… “sore losers” I guess (i wasn’t there), and I got trash talked at school after the ‘96 game lol. This was one of the most satisfying Illini wins ever, at least for me.

We’re in the middle of a pretty good stretch of illini football, let’s enjoy it (I still have no idea what to make of that Indiana game, so I’ll just try to ignore that one)

I don't want to be that guy.... but upon further review... I actually think the refs got it right...

I was at the game, and it looked like he was down. And, I (as well as 60,000 others) were PISSSSSSED. Then I got home about an hour ago and went RIGHT to that play. Oh my god, I was LIVID. So obviously he hits the ground THEN the ball pops out. The announcers even called it.

But.... they made a really good point (conveniently not in the clip that is being shown all over). His shoulder didn't hit the ground. It hit another defender who was on the ground. Not down. Ball pops out. Yellow is the ground. Green is the defender. Feagin's arm is on the green (that's the defender's arm on the ground, not Feagin's). Ball pops out immediately after this still image.

I understand what you’re saying about the shoulder, but regardless of that it is 100% clear his right elbow bounces off the ground. You can see it in the video.

When people say they're not bigoted towards any cohort of people and treat all humans equally, etc., I ask, "Even replay officials?"

Because let's be honest, these people are freakin' low lifes.

USC was fortunate to even be in this game in 4th quarter. That up-for-grabs heave into the end zone was a terrible option on fourth and 6. But it worked; they got lucky. Illini were rock solid today and deserved this comeback win. The win resets the season.

One bad thing I heard the student section ran out of water so a lot of them were bailing as the game went on.
I wondered why the student section looked about 60% full when the winning kick was made. I hope that this was the reason and not the students bailing and heading for the bars. I believe the students should be more prominently located in the main stands but not if they are going to lose interest and bail if things turn against us.

It was oppressively hot. Luckily sitting on the west side we were in the shadow by the second half
