I can't help but think that getting Lane is so very much not worth the headache he is.

Like the dude has the 6th ranked team, is heading for a home playoff game (assuming they dodge Miss St which I think is a dangerous game for them), and is flirting with a different team and willing to throw it all to the wind.

If I'm LSU, do I really feel confident that he will actually stick around to see a playoff game or will he be onto the next before it happens?

Yes Ole Miss is 6th in the country right now….but LSU>Ole Miss. LSU has 3 titles in the last 25 years with 3 different head coaches. This all comes down to where he can best win a championship and it isn’t at Ole Miss

Yeah, that's fair. I'm just not sure how Lane weighs money (being paid) and championship opportunities.

They're undoubtedly linked to an extent, but it won't always be the University that pays the coach the most that wins the Championship games.

Plus I, in my uneducated opinion, don't believe Lane is that great of a coach.

He turned Ole Miss into the #6 team in the country per your last post. It’s not like they’ve been a perennial powerhouse.

Unless your coach is bad aren't you always in a retainment battle?

It's about the financial resources for players. I'm guessing LSU brings more to the table.

I think paying Brian Kelly $53 million not to coach, and then paying whatever Kiffin gets is a gigantic waste of resources. I think Kiffin is at best another Lincoln Riley. An offensive mind that develops very talented QBs but lacks other things you need to be a powerhouse. I think LSU should go after Dillingham. I think he’s a better coach than Kiffin.

I don't think there's any way Dillingham is a better coach than Kiffin... the big 12 sent one team to the playoff, and if they don't have Skattebo that game is not even close.

Kiffin turned his backup QB FCS transfer into a dynamic QB and their offense is *really* good.

Do you realize how horrible Arizona State was before he got there? Plus he’s way younger than Kiffin. And it’s not like it’s hard to win at Ole Miss. Hugh Freeze got it going there before NIL was a big deal

Assuming this is true, it’s wild that you now have to make two offers to lure in a top tier head coach. Coach compensation + player compensation.
Well, it's always been a bit like that. Facilities and recruiting budget have always been factors. It's just now we have a more concrete measurement that some schools may want to reveal or leak.

Going to previous comments - this is exactly why I support the athletes getting paid. There is so much money in the system that LSU is:

- Offering a coach a $115 million package to lure them away from their current job
- Potentially on the hook for another $50 million to buy out the previous coach
- Will need to pay another ~$15-20 million in fill out the rest of the coaching positions

People get so fixated on $25 million to the players as the problem while ignoring that coaches are getting paid over $160 million.

That $25 is annually and will increase. The $160, which may be lowered, is for 7 years.

The $25 million is paid for ~100 players per year. The $160 million is paying for ~30 people over that time period. That number will also increase for coaches as people are fired, extended, etc.

Really think this ends with Lane & O teaming up at LSU …

Florida is “running 3rd and a distant 3rd” … Per a source close to Kiffin …
I don't know how any recruit or administrator trusts Kiffin.

Pair that with Os exit from LSU because he propositioned a board member's pregnant wife..

I thought LSU was unlikable with Kelly, this is kicking it up a notch
