I posted before the Wisconsin game to beware of wounded badgers. We fooled around, failed to perform up to our standard on offense, defense, and special teams, and got curb stomped by a team playing for pride on their home field on Senior Night. I trust Coach B will take accountability and also use this as a teachable moment with his staff and players. There was plenty of blame to go around. Then, let's get refocused and give our best effort to beat Northwestern to end the regular season on a positive note.
And isn't that curious? Some of it is matchups for sure, but could it be when we poop the bed that Bret gets more hands on? Then if we win a couple he backs off and lets the coordinators resume being not great? I get this, and the post game call in show hosts droned on and on about it.
Yes, given our history, 7-5 with a bowl game is a "good" season. That just illustrates how awful we've been in the past. But, there was a ton of preseason hype around this team from coaches and media. So not making the playoff is one thing, but finishing three additional losses from being in the conversation is a precipitous drop for this season.
It sure would look better if we beat the mildcats next weekend and finish 8-4. It's possible, but not if the team we saw yesterday shows up.
I hope our guys don't come out unmotivated. For example, after Indiana you still had a lot left in front of you, so it's innately a bit easier to rally the troops.

I think ‘players have quit’ is too strong a sentiment. But I do worry about the ‘playoffs or screw it’ mentality. Some other poster mentioned this earlier and it struck a note with me.

NW is much better than i thought. Braun is a better coach than Fitzgerald, at least at the end.
Bret will have the Illini motivated and ready to play their best, especially those playing their last game on our home field. From what I've seen, neither team has seen consistently good play from their offensive or defensive lines. Illinois should have a clear advantage at place kicker, quarterback, and the receiver corps, and I think that will make the difference. I'm picking the Orange and Blue, 27-20. Luke is not going out a loser if this is truly his last home game. Book it.
Don’t forget scoring touchdowns too.
