My speculation here* but I’m sure a playoff team with a shaky kicking situation is willing to pay more to sure that up than we are.Why not cash it here, then?

Olano was right to tell Bret to play him Freshman year because he won’t need the redshirt year.
Ohio state buckeye David olano would hurt me deep in my bones. My speculation here* but I’m sure a playoff team with a shaky kicking situation is willing to pay more to sure that up than we are.
The beauty of roster building. If you're a team that has a couple (or more) extra million to spend on roster building and expecting to contend next year then it makes sense to spend ~$250k on a great kicker. For Illinois, that might cost you a DL two-deep guy to match. Maybe it's the cost for a less-heralded starter or a well-regarded 2027 recruit. In this scenario, it makes sense for both teams.
You must not have been a big fan of Luke Altmyer then, huh? He was a transfer.I’m sorry but, paying college athletes is the biggest mistake anyone ever made. That and the transfer portal have ruined the sport for me.

ND needs a kicker, badly. I have no inside info, but I see some dots that if connected could see him wind up there. My speculation here* but I’m sure a playoff team with a shaky kicking situation is willing to pay more to sure that up than we are.

there will be some type of new rules on this one day . but all I have read will still allow the players first transfer to be penalty free .I really do hate hate this portal era.

David Olano enters transfer portal - The Daily Illini
Just two days after his walk-off field goal to win the Music City Bowl, junior kicker David Olano is entering the transfer portal.dailyillini.com
Yes.Is it crazy to say that I would rather spend money on Olano than a 2nd string D-Lineman or DB. Just pay the man what he wants rather than spending money on another potential portal bust.
It was never clean as far back as I can remember. I'm going on 70.I'm not going to fight you on the sentiment, because I get the frustration.
My contention is that folks are incredibly naive if you think this was not happening for many athletes before NIL. There are hundreds of stories out there now about athletes getting offered big money under the table going back decades. You need to realize that, unless you are in your 80's, you have been rooting for a system that was rotten forever.

Don’t hate the player hate the game. 20 years ago I’d have hated Olano for this as it would have been shady. Now don’t blame him one bit. Sucks but is what it is.I really do hate hate this portal era.

Heard 750KNumber I heard was over $250k.
Not a bad idea but I've already lost track of the transfer outs@Dan can we add a transferring out list at the beginning of each football recruiting thread?
@Dan can we also add a thread for random transfers that have no link whatsoever to our program or our state?
All transfer portal news eventually tends to end up in this thread anyways so let's continue use this one powerful thread for all transfer portal news.Dan, you going to start a separate transfer portal thread? In’s and Outs??
Im in my 80s and it was rotten back then, sanctimonious but rottenI'm not going to fight you on the sentiment, because I get the frustration.
