There is another option of course. Underwood is required to take an Xs and Os whiz on his staff, and allow him to fulfill that role.

I think Underwood's problem is he is not a tactician. He can identify and land talent and that alone will win you a lot of games, but there have been many games where we've been obviously outcoached. I think the lack of tourney success is because he is not able to create a strong gameplan on unfamiliar opponents in the time allowed.

We don't adjust well, we often come out of the gates slow, I don't know if we have any set plays. We need someone that can bring that to the table, whether it be a new assistant or a new coach.

I agree, just as the majority of the board was clamoring for last year. Yet BU chose to roll with Hamer still sitting first row. He's reaping what he sowed when it comes to last off season's coaching moves. I hardly hear anything about Krueger, who was a head coach the four years prior to coming here, and Crocker sure has not moved the needle a ton defensively. We are better, but it hasn't translated to much in the way of wins. We have the resources to be a lot better on the bench X & O wise than we have been the last two years.

I interpret this to mean that someone has to make a play in those key situations.

The offseason moves havent translated to much in the way of wins? Illinois already has more wins than last year with more games yet to play… so far this year is better than last year in every way (while playing a tougher schedule)

I’m interested to see if all this talk of the B1G struggles in the tournament is due to how B1G refs officiate holds water. In theory we should do very well in the tourney this season if this is indeed a thing.

I recognize the officiating issue. But officiating is not costing us these recent losses.

There are a lot of fans, who think this team is great. I am not there. Now if this team goes on a run in the NCAA maybe we can have that conversation.

In the article, it also says Underwood is a step down from the elite 12 options they name... Lloyd, Drew, among others...

So a local media outlet trying to sell copies couldn't even say the instate coach was a realistic option for Kentucky....

More wins than last year ain't saying much. Last year was a significant disappointment, as I am sure you'll agree.

With the important caveat that: Underwood had to replace virtually his entire roster last year. He did that, and incredibly managed to build a team of modest accomplishment and with exception, young talent. And as well, he built the foundation for this year's squad.

Still. Underwood is not meeting his self-stated expectations of championships. He's close, but he's gotta get 'er done.

Exactly right. No coach can be great at everything. We all have strengths and weaknesses.

Brad is really, really good at culture and talent evaluation. He’s not a good X-O coach like Kruger was. Hire someone to shore up those weaknesses. It shouldn’t be that hard.

How come every time there’s a big opening he’s never mentioned ?

Didn’t you say Texas had Brad high on their list? I thought you also said when North Carolina was open they had him high on the list.
