Oh it's definitely an illusion with a -3 run differential but 5 games over .500, but... those wins still count, so they could play like a 78 win team from here on out instead of a 94 win team they're on pace for and still finish .500, which would be a huge accomplishment for this squad.

The offense is legitimately good. Herrera and Burleson are performing well and have the track record, JJ's line looks sustainable. Walker will come back down to earth a little (has a .358 BABIP), but the fact that his solid contact rates have stayed this high for 130 PAs while keeping his ground ball rate down is really promising.

They'll start to lose more games because their pitching is bad (especially the bullpen, they're atrocious), and the front office doesn't have much incentive to keep the good bullpen guys around at the deadline, but a legitimate shot to stay around .500 with the young roster and money to spend is a not a bad spot to be.

It's more fun watching a rebuild as the team is winning with the young core. (DAH). It also appears that the fielding has been good. I think it is easier fixing the pitching staff than the line up.

I like your comment about defense. Shortstops don't get much better than Winn, and of course Scott is a plus center fielder. I love players with speed.

The catch Winn made in foul territory was outstanding!
He also was not happy being hit by that pitch. Don’t blame him!

Church has shown this year why he has been called the best fielding outfielder in the Cardinals organization for the last couple of years......It's been great to see his improvement on the offensive side also......it really really has..............

Admittedly I'm not much of a nootbarr fan, but he has to better than Scott. Not getting much out of him right now
