Really impressed with what I saw from QC in the game last night. Not only is he exceptionally gifted, he plays with great effort. He might need to calm down a bit on defense, and let the game come to him a bit more on that end. I bit more handsy than he needs to be, and closes out a bit too aggressively, but you can't fault his effort..

Seeing him in a couple of these All-Star settings, he is a rare kid who is always trying to make the right play, rather than just trying to get his numbers. (clearly those just come)

One of my favorite moments won't make the highlights, but shows how smart he is and the type of leadership qualities he has...

One of the post players got in a scrum for a rebound and the Argentine kid fell down. The kid from USA came up with the rebound and after the whistle for a foul, fired the ball at the kid on the ground and kind of stood over him. Q quickly grabbed the teammate, pushed him away from the kid, and got in his ear.

That's a kid I want on my team.

Agree. Much easier to tell a kid “whoa” than to tell a kid “go!”

And who knows, defensively Brad and Cam may live with a little more gambling on defense next year if it leads to more turnovers/runouts. One way we can counteract our likely dropoff in half court offensive efficiency.

And offensively he was a few missed bunnies away from having a 20/15 game. Pretty impressive.

Said it before and again I don’t think it’s the hottest take, but wouldn’t shock me if by the end of the season he’s our best player.

I believe this was Michigan State commit Ethan Taylor. Continuing the legacy of good sportsmanship...

That was Bruce Branch lll who's headed to BYU. Happened at the 3:37 mark of QTR 3.
Got it, I may be misremembering but I think there was also a technical foul on #15 in the fourth quarter while he was going for an offensive rebound.

Edit: confirming there was a technical by him at the 2:40 in the 4th, but not for the offense originally mentioned. Must have been for something he said, need to brush up on my Spanish.

9 points and 4 rebounds by my count in the 6 minutes he played in 1st quarter. The energy he brought was very noticeable. Believe he also had as many dunks in the 1st quarter (2) as our starting backcourt had all last season 👀

Tall task to be better than last season's backcourt but we're unquestionably IMO more athletic there

The game was a mismatch.

It still showed that Coleman is a high level shooter and passer. His athleticism showed up with his ability to finish at the rim.

His handle is not the best and he’s not strong enough yet to drive through defenders.

His defensive footwork honestly looks like he’s never had a defensive coach teach him positional defense.

His motor and ability to get open off the ball and to find the ball on rebounds it elite.

Probably will be in the NBA next season, especially if he can put on 20-30 lbs of muscle.

A great game...for his first. I loved his hustle and his athleticism. He'll be a great one as he develops....

However, he's NOT Wagler...yet. He doesn't need to be sped up; he already is. He took 13 shots to score 9 points against his own age group. Several times he tried for the spectacular lay ups where he could have come down with the ball and scored easily or been fouled. His passing was suspect.

But also his teammates didn't help as he was open quite often and the chose to dribble into trouble rather that pass him the ball.

I'm drooling just thinking how he'll do once Illini coaches get a hold of him, and he's playing with the pass-happy Illini teammates.

In a few years he might be the best they've had!

Go Illini!

Does anyone know why Lucas Morillo isn't playing for the DR U-18 team this year?

In the old days they had the McDonald All Star game. We occasionally go a player in like Efrem Winters MVP or Marcus Liberty. Now there are a lot more all star games

Nike Hoops Classic - USA vs World
Jordan Classic USA
Iverson Classic USA (lower tier)
Plus USA U18, U19 tournaments

With streaming and cable it is possible to watch a lot of them

I remember when your only chance to see our recruits/targets play was the IHSA state tournament . Times have changed

Presumably his age (he's 18.5 yo, born Oct 24, 2007). He was on the DR FIBA U18 Americas Championship team in 2024. He played up and was a starter on a team that finished 4th.
