Chicago Cubs 2026

He’s a warm body. They’re looking for 5 innings a start, not perfection at this point.

I’m sure they’ll try to make a higher quality addition to the starting staff closer to the deadline. Assuming they’re still in the playoff chase.

Thanks for explaining that to me. 🙄

I have no problem with the move. Had to do something. Like I said in my post, he’s had some success. Even this year, which has been pretty bad, 3 of the 6 starts he went five innings he gave up a combined total of one ER. Problem is the other 3 he had ERA of about 10. And that doesn’t include the bad starts when he couldn’t make it through five innings. I’m hopeful the change of scenery and being on a better team with better D will help.

I know you’re joking, but despite the 7-22 month, the Cubs are in the second wildcard spot.

The plan looks to be to limp along with Imanega, Assad, Rea, Boyd and Peterson as starters while using the Des Moines shuttle to keep the bullpen stocked with fresh AAAA arms.

Try to win as many 6-5 games as possible until the trade deadline when you start getting Brown, Taillon, Cabrera and hopefully a trade acquisition back in the rotation. Hopefully Palencia, Steele and another trade acquisition can shore up the pen.

But for this strategy to work, the offense needs to be the one from April and the last couple weeks and not the disaster we saw in between.

As long as they don't mortgage the future to get the last wild card spot.

It’s never the manager’s fault but you can’t fire all of those high paid players on guaranteed contracts.
It's like that in EVERY pro and now college sport. If a guy goes 4 of 10 from the foul line in a game and you lose by 1, fire the coach. The kid shoots 500 a day, makes 425, but once the bright light turn on and the heart starts racing ....clank. Coaches fault.

The kicker misses two field goals and an extra point. Fire the coach.

Can't get rid of the guaranteed deals and guys who sell merch.

In the Mets case, the GM let's Alonso walk out the door, spends their money in 10 other places, goes nuts on the Soto deal, spends a fortune on Semian and now the new 1B can't field routine ground balls, leading to losses, so....fire the coach. The GM who gave the guy the cards to play carries absolutely no culpability.

I don't know about that. Do a quick google search and see how many articles are out there saying the Mets fired the wrong guy...

I'm pretty sure that his "injury" is an involuntary vacation to get his mind back in a good spot, while opening up a roster spot. It's a demotion for 15 days, but the "injury" saves the pride.
I would agree 100% under normal circumstances but I don't know if this is the case under the present dire situation that the entire pitching staff is in.
