We had 0 punts and.... 2 made field goals, one missed field goal, one interception and turned the ball over on downs twice. We had three touchdowns and were stopped on the other 6 possessions. We scored 3 points in the second half. Very few teams win scoring 3 point in the second half and gaining 3.5 yard per rushing attempt.

I wouldn't go quite that far. Who was responsible for recruiting the players who are now producing the poorest defense we have put on the field since early in Lovie's tenure? You have to recruit and retain at this level in addition to coaching up what you have. That has been sorely missing on the defensive side for quite a few years.
The defense was not good, but this is on the offense, we had chances to win.
He was targeted in be 4th, but slowed route down instead of trying to get open to bail Hauser out. Houser threw it behind him, but he should have scrambled for maybe a 1st down.

Well, that makes three of us. Looks like we are in the minority however. It was a game we could have won - defense was better in the second half. Offensively, we stopped looking down the field. While I don't understand, I think our offensive coaching staff know what they are doing. For the 3 - 5 - 3 to be more effective, we have to move the ball more quickly.

Claims that Houser was better than Altmyer were, uh, let's be nice and just say premature.
Houser is a talented kid, but I think all the way around that team needs to look itself in the mirror and realize it is now in the shootout business.

I still think what is desperately missing from our offense is an RB screen and getting our RBs out in space. Both Valentine and Laughery are fast and not traditional bruising backs. Getting them the ball in position to break a big one while also serving as a pressure relief is something that would’ve helped in that 2nd half when Duke was pressuring Hauser more

that's the game. as bad as the D was, this is the blame.
also felt like the play calling was weird in the second half. predictable runs, gimmick plays at odd times.
maybe Duke made some amazing half time adjustments but it felt more like the problem was on our side of the ball.

The mismanagement of timeouts in BOTH halves is going extremely underreported.
I think we win this game with Luke. Houser seemed a little like the pressure of the moment got to him on the last two drives.

Mostly this, but scheme in the 4th quarter was the cherry on top.
Houser needs to get more comfortable with his other targets. All of our B10 opponents will take away Dixon and he needs to move to other receivers/TEs quickly. I kind of wonder what Eberhart could do in this offense if they aren't going to play him on defense. . .
I really hope this doesn't spiral and the injuries are not multiple weeks out for the offensive line. If they play like they did today, Purdue will be a dogfight.
Could any of the 2001 returnees have put a uniform back on to help these guys out? B Lloyd looked like he could still torch a defense (and Howard Griffith for that matter)!

We would pass on first down and get 7 to 9 yards and then run it 2x and have to pass on 4th down.
N then after the game the Athletic Dept does not have the shuttle drop offs n pick n ups labeled this year, two weeks now i ask drivers and they dont do whatbthey said and that's a cluster this year. We leave early to hop on the shuttle and avoid traffic for the long drive home and yet its seven and still stuck. At least figure out your parking and shuttle service and put up freaking signs this year like last!
Yeah that’s it. I don’t understand alll the complaints. If we don’t have the NIL $$ we can’t win. I know there teams out there that win with less $$, but it’s not sustainable.

He has gotten locked into Dixon and STARES him down. Duke had absolutely no doubt where he was going with it. No progressions, no reading what the defense is doing.....he just locked in and let it go. One was a pick and another was a 4th down play and the route was 5 yards short of the first down. It went that way anyway.
Yes, with Luke that would have been a win. That stat where we won 5 straight one score games was due to Luke. Have to figure out a way to move on. If the offensive line is as bad off as it looks, I may go with the most athletic QB on the roster who can get outside the pocket and do damage. Now, we'd never get another transfer QB ever again, but after Southern IL..... there are absolutely no more games that we can feel good about.
