Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread

I could get used to a one and done each season!
I've always been a "love to get to know the player over multiple season kind of guy". Never liked the Kentucky model. But I too must admit, I like having top High School players taking Illinois seriously.
Even though I selfishly would have loved seeing Keaton play with the Illini one more season. It feels good having multiple NBA level players on our team.

There is something about the HS kids that is hard to ignore.

For one, it's good to know the program is has the "it" factor with these kids in terms of how it's perceived from a brand perspective. Fans grab onto bringing them in young with the mystery they can become the next big star.

Same here but having one and sometimes two 1 and dones is a long way from the Ky model. Now that assumes that you can keep enough of the 2nd year players to not transfer….

I just got back from C-U (University High Class of '76 reunion) and driving past the flying saucer. I co-sign on missing the fun (or frustration) of watching the team and players evolve and grow over a couple seasons. These days I have to settle for watching the team evolve and grow over 30+ games. Seeing how they accept their roles, or not, enter the transfer portal in search of PT, or not.... I have to say, thanks to "Body By Fletch", the players definitely grow up fast before your eyes. Kofi being my favorite case study.

On the topic of recruiting and the fact Duke seems to have their way with recruits, did anyone know these nuggets:

1) Adam Silver is a Duke grad
2) Grant Hill is the MD of Team USA's Selection Committee
3) Their GM is an ex Nike Executive
4) That Brian Scalabrini, when first discovering Cooper Flagg, made two calls. One to Team USA and another to Duke.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but might there be some horseplay that give Duke an unlevel advantage in CBB?
wasn't Scalabrini a USC grad? What's the Duke connection?

Illinois is the favorite to land Brady Pettigrew (60%).

If Coleman and / or Vaaks leave for the draft, that increases the odds considerably.

If you listen to the most recent Sleepers podcast today on Pettigrew (the ep. talking Jake Davis), it's almost pretty hard to imagine him not picking Illinois at the current moment. Now things can change of course and these kids can be all over the place at times, but we have to feel very good about our chances.

We shall see.

If having a good alumni network is "horseplay," then horseplay is universal problem that transcends college basketball.
