Illinois 20, Maryland 17 Postgame

Not even necessarily that. He has just struggled to retain stuff so it has to be simple stuff when he’s in. Pass pro is also a problem. Also if you listen to Bret’s post game presser he said he has a RB that would have scored there instead of taking a knee like Jordan did and thats why the other RB wasn’t in the game…..he ain’t talking about Aiden lol
Freshmen gonna freshmen.

But we have a very good stable of backs even without Valentine, and this is a Bret Bielema team which means we're going to see them.

I am totally happy with Anderson getting the touches in the 4th (and Barnett getting in there), but just wondering if Laughery is ok or if he was injured during the game today? Or maybe it just wasn't his day?

The playbook gets significantly smaller when JB is in the game
it seems like, "run that way", works pretty well though

Barnett is good, but he did rush for 2 or fewer yards on 4 of his 6 carries today.

We're kinda teetering on the edge of all the good plays are because of the players and all the bad plays are because the coaches are dumb here today.

Laughery’s averaging 6.9 yards per carry on the season. He had 13 carries for 123 yards (9.5 yards per carry) against Oregon last week.

Yes, you’re no Barry Lunney Jr.
Laughery’s YPC numbers are due to his “home run” plays.

Those plays are awesome, but when they don’t happen, his numbers are not going to be great. Today is a perfect example (3.3 YPC).

I think Barnett has more consistency in areas outside of the massive runs (while also being capable of springing a long one, as we saw today).

I'd love to see a stat where we can win with a FG and have the ball with 5 minutes left. It's gotta be a very, very high % we win.

Laughery has two runs over 50 yards on the season. One for 75 and one for 77.

Even if you remove both plays, he’s averaging 4.9 yards per carry, which is still outstanding.

Chase Brown’s final year in Champaign, he averaged 5.0 yards per carry.

To an extent, but there was also a couple of passes that could have gone for TD's or at least more yardage if they weren't under thrown and a couple that the receivers made great catches on.

Don't get me wrong, I was not calling for Houser to come or of the game. You can't just blame all of it on the receivers. He understandably started out rusty.
Yes his accuracy was off today. When he made completions they were taking yardage away from what the recievers could have gotten with more accurate throws. On the other side of it there were too many balls that the recievers didn't hang on to it like we are used to.

I wish our defense could tackle better (except for Bailey!) I think its because we're so small and unathletic so we end up grabbing for guys and they inevitably slip away.

Not sure what the solution is, except get bigger and better players.

Worst tackling Illini team in my 70 years of watching Illini football....
