I have been reading about how when things are harder to get they are considered better. I am not sure, but I will NEVER think Bud, Coors, Miller are good. Ever.

My favorite beer that I do not make is Arrogant Bastard Ale. I also like Valley Forge Brewing Company's Imperial Stout and John Harvard's Oatmeal Stout.

A more widely known of my favorite is Yuengling Porter.

I used to know a corner liquor store in West Haven CT that sold Yuengling Porter for a lower price than any of their other beers (other than Black Label, Hamms, and other bargain beers).

After a couple of months, someone must have figured it out, and the price went up to the level of the craft beers...a very sad day

I can imagine that it was a sad day indeed! Would have been heartbreaking. However, I found out how to solve all my beer worries. I can clone almost ANY beer made.

Aww man, I just called the Savoy store and they don't carry 3 Floyds. I got all excited over nothing. :faint: It's still only available in the Chicago area and NW Indiana. Any of you Chicago guys going to the Purdue football game? Wanna bring me some beer? :D

I would recommend calling some places to see what they can do. The Bloomington Friar Tucks hasn't been able to get it in awhile.

If you tell your story and let people know how far you are traveling I would be amazed if someone wouldn't hold you some.

I can imagine that it was a sad day indeed! Would have been heartbreaking. However, I found out how to solve all my beer worries. I can clone almost ANY beer made.

As can my wife (you read that right). With the yeast market the way it is, almost anything can be cloned.

One thing to add though is that the higher the alcohol, the harder the beer.

A couple nice ones that I don't think have been mentioned:
Nosferatu by Great Lakes is a really nice red ale

And I had a Great Divide Hibernation Ale for the first time last night. Not at all your typical spicy winter seasonal - it's a really straight forward old English Ale with light hops and a slightly bitter finish. One of the better beers I've had in a while.

And I had a Great Divide Hibernation Ale for the first time last night. Not at all your typical spicy winter seasonal - it's a really straight forward old English Ale with light hops and a slightly bitter finish. One of the better beers I've had in a while.



I've seen that one several times, and always been on the cusp of ordering it but i can never pull the trigger, maybe this will motivate me to try it finally.

Their Eliot Ness is pretty good too.

Yeah, I think Great Lakes is one of the better midwestern breweries. Not on the Three Floyds level (and I've been very impressed by what I've had from Founders), but I'd put it up there with Bell's.

Not sure where in Cincy you are, but over here on the east side they just opened up the eastgate Jungle Jim's which will increase my selection of beer.

Make your own 6pack is going to do harm to my 6pack.

The JJ's in Fairfield is sorta on my way home from work. I love shopping there, and the beer selection is really something.

Also just found easily my favorite local Cincy brew: BlankSlate Ryesing Up Saison. Not available in bottles yet, but I've had it at the Comet and Lavomatic and it's really outstanding.

My Brother In Law called me this morning and they were at the Covered Bridge Festival in Parke County (IN) just North of Terre Haute. I immediately jumped online looking up what liquor stores were in the area. Bourbon & Canal came up and I remembered the name since I had been there in the past looking for FFF when I flew into Indianapolis one time, no luck, didn't carry it :(. I called them first and BOOM! they now carry it and in fact had just gotten a large shipment in today :rock: Called my BIL and, being the Best BIL in the world that he is, he went right over and bought me one 6 pack and one Bomber of all that they had!!!! :whoo: SCORE! :whoo:

I've had a really great day! :D

Just tried a Flying Dog beer tonight at Smoke restaurant. In-heat wheat, it's hefe weizen with a little bite... loved it.

I like the Mt Carmel brews around here. The Morlein brews are highly overrated, IMO

Had an old favorite last night - Anchor Liberty Ale

Also tried a Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale - good for a flavored beer

And speaking of Smuttynose, their IPA is pretty good

Had a North Coast Old Rasputin with dinner tonight. Nice thing about colder weather coming back is it's great weather to enjoy a good stout.

Tried it yesterday, meh. I've yet to have any pumpkin flavored beer that I like though. Yet I love pumpkin pie! Go figure.

I was going to try a Shock Top once but saw that it was an A-B product just before it hit my lips and I've managed to keep it away ever since.

I am the same way. Unfortunately the one place I drink it at (a pool hall) there is no better option. They only have the typical AB/Miller regular/light beers, corona, and no liquor. So I just pretend it's a true craft beer the one night I play there. :laugh:
