First of all, we can't really be judged in a poll like this until we see the uni's on the field.

Secondly, hat tip to Sean Merriman's trolling of voting Maryland #1 and Michigan #10. You can practically hear the "HERP DERP ITS ABOUT WHAT 16 YEAR OLDS LIKE"

Third, some of this is just the quality of the color scheme. Michigan State's dark green and white is almost impossible to screw up, meanwhile I think Minnesota is doing as well as you can with maroon and gold. Orange and blue is a tricky one too.

Fourth, are the rumors about Ohio State going to their "rivalry" jerseys with the gray numbers and the shiny green buckeye stickers on a permanent basis true?

Fifth, and this is the real existential question here, are we getting to the point when really plain uniforms don't look that good anymore? Penn State is one thing, that look is sort of inextricably tied to Paterno and that whole legacy (which opens a whole other can of worms of course), but I mean more like Iowa, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. I like uniforms like that much, much less than I did maybe 10 years ago. There's a difference between classic, iconic design (Michigan's helmet), and just no design at all.

I like Maryland's. My daughter goes to UMD so I've grown to appreciate the incorporation of the state flag in the color scheme. The "kids" love it. I've never been a fan of PSU's unis, I used to like Michigan's, but Adidas screwed them up, OSU has almost had the same happen, never liked UNL or Wisky, NU's might get better with Under Armour rather than Adidas, Iowa's now seem very dated and I like Purdue's because I think the black & gold is a good color combo to work with.

As for the Illini, as long as they're not all orange, I'm in.

Because no one watches or cares about Maryland football (good call, Jim Delany!) people don't realize that since they went to outer space land with Under Armor, they have actually run through a couple of different templates with mixed success. Some of their combinations are actually quite "classic" really.

But all anyone remembers is the zany Maryland flag themed half-and-half goofball uni they wore for their first ever game under that Under Armor contract, which was IIRC that thursday night season opener on ESPN. That's the only time they ever wore it, and three years later, people are still talking about it. Mission Accomplished.

People complaining about the zig zags should realize that's about as bold of a nod to the Chief as the University can do without ticking off the NCAA.

I'm not sure any Illini fans should look down on someone else's football program at the moment.

FYI, it is Under Armour.

Does anyone have a picture of the Illini basketball uniform from fall of 2000?

The two tone script is weak.

Agreed. On a white background I guess it is tolerable but on an orange background it is really, really bad.

Yep, already my least favorite thing of the rebrand so far. It's just trying too hard to be unique and it looks really bad, especially with two thirds being blue and the other third orange. It's not balanced at all and it looks amateurish. Hopefully next year's line of stuff does away with two-tone completely.

well, in the interest of fairness, i think the two-tone script is my favorite part of the rebrand. it looks like good, kitschy retro to me, à la 80's astros and angels jerseys.

i hate the font.

horses for courses, as the brits say.

I like the two-tone font. I think it is cool. Everyone has stencil letters in one color. I think ours is cool and unique.
