What were they looking for that they couldn’t find by looking at the video for 30 seconds. Battle obviously got the shot off in time and the clock started as soon as the ball was touched on the inbound. There was seemingly nothing else they needed to know.
B10 officials' grasp of the rules of basketball is not strong. Also, they may have been running scenarios to determine worst outcome for IL (kidding about this one, serious about the first one).
There is an outside chance of a CBI invite which would give him yet another bite of that apple.
Yeah I don't what they were looking for. I was watching the end of that game at the same time as our game and the Minnesota crowd was booing as they continued to review it. The refs kept asking to look at it over and over and every replay showed that he got the shot off on time and the clock started when the ball was touched. I didn't even know you could review when the clock starts after the ball is touched. That was news to me.

Ben Lewis was placed on my tournament golf team at Urbana CC about 25 years ago. I’d never met him, but he was our A player based on his handicap. When we got to the first tee, he looked at me and said he’d played 5 rounds in the last two years, and I was the A player. In a shocking result, we came in just about last. Though I was at UGCC for another 10 years, I never saw him again. It sounds like he was much better at basketball……
Smedley's shot was 1963(and I still think that he fouled Herb Williams). Golden, Pekin and the Appleknockers was in 1964. Cazzie graduated in 1962 and his Carver team was beaten by Stephen Decatur in '62.

The Apple knockers came to the Foxes den and all their starters were at least 6'5" and corn fed healthy

My (three year old ) high school made it down to the elite 8 in 1964 and played pekin in the quarterfinals. Some people had us favored... and I think we ended up losing 81-43! Pekin(the Chinks!) were so fast and good shooters we had no chance, and Golden might have outscored us all by himself. I think that they beat Cobden by around 10 in the final game.
We beat Bradley-Bourbonnais in the super-sectional and they had Randy Crews playing for them. He was a two/three starter for the Illini.
Memories...
I remember that someone from Cobden said that they "blowed the sireen" when they went doen state...
This is a link to that game. Smedley's shot is at about the 20-21 minute mark in the video. Played High school ball in the middle sixties. After that shot we would run to the corner to throw up a shot and call it a "Smedley"
Good article about Cobden -- lost 2 starters before the season started and still got to the championship game.
