Thomas Pieters picked for the Europe Ryder Cup team. Like Small needs more recruiting help!

I'll be there wearing Illini Orange one day, USA colors the next.

Coach getting a nice raise. :thumb:

Fresh off the Illini men’s golf team’s second consecutive national semifinal appearance, coach Mike Small is slated for a hefty raise.

Small would receive a new six-year contract that runs through August 2022 under a proposed contract to be considered by UI trustees on Thursday.

He would receive $308,000 this year, including a $300,000 base salary that would rise by 5 percent a year, and $8,000 a year in lieu of a university vehicle. He currently earns $201,900, according to the UI’s “gray book” of academic and administrative salaries from this past school year.

He will get a $100,000 retention bonus if he remains through August 2019, under the terms of his previous contract, and another $100,000 if he stays through 2022.

First event of the season starts tomorrow. For those wondering about the lineup, 2 frosh - Baumgarten and Feagles join the 3 returnees. 2 other Illini - redshirt frosh Gold and our new Belgian Tadiotto will play as individuals.

Must have felt sorry for the other teams. Great first two days, today, not so much. Definitely a very impressive win, especially after losing two senior AAs.

Werner's Whits: Reloaded Illini golf again can compete for national title in 2017

Oh, and the talent keeps coming. The Class of 2017 features Hinsdale (Ill.) Central's Brendan O'Reilly, the No. 28 prospect in the Class of 2017, and Champaign native Varun Chopra, the No. 127 recruit. On Tuesday, Illinois received a commitment from Indiana native Noah Gillard, the No. 40 prospect in the Class of 2018 who joins No. 54 overall prospect and Morton (Ill.) native Tommy Kuhl in the class.

The "Champaign native" here goes to Uni High, the high school on campus. Academically gifted school with 60 kids per class, a 2 person golf "team", a budget for a once/week golf coach, and no facilities. To have a D1 athlete from there is incredible, let alone for a top 5 program. Talk about the definition of a buy low guy. Think about what he could do with some Mike Small coaching.
