Up 2 with 1 to play, Up 4 with 3 to play etc... basically it means the match is final and here is how much winner won by with how many holes were left.
Means the match ended early. 2 & 1 means that the winner was 2 up, with 1 hole left to play, and they didn't need to play the last hole.

Correct. No bearing on the score. Doesn't matter if a player were to win 2&1 or 6&5. It still only counts as 1 victory for the team.
Right, need to win 3 of them regardless of the scores.

Finishes wherever they were at. And since Danielson was 1-Up at the time it counts as a W for Illinois.. 4-1 is the final (not that it matters once you get to 3 W's but just for posterity) and on to the Semi's.
