2016 St. Louis Cardinals

Diaz went 4-4 today with 2 RBI's. Good start! I was trying to find articles explaining why he had such a sudden turnaround last year. I figured he changed his approach or was stronger/healthier but I couldn't find anything. Whatever clicked for him, let's hope it keeps working.

I'm guessing he was still banged up from the year before.

Peralta decided to have surgery, which means he'll be out longer than 2-3 months. They're saying he'll be back by June at the earliest.

Looks like Wacha has been working on a cutter. Was reported that he commanded it pretty well his first time out. I like/love Wacha, but was always worried about his small arsenal of pitches.

Evidently we signed Ruben tejada to a 1 year deal today as an insurance policy for ss. 1.5M is what I saw

You think Piscotty's inexperience keeps him out of the three hole? That would be a great spot for him.

Carpenter
Wong
Holliday
Grichuk
Adams/Moss
Piscotty
Molina
Tejada

Probably move guys around a lot. Expect to see Piscotty hitting 2nd a lot too

The big question is how confident is Matt Holliday at 1B? Viva el birdos has him starting there on opening day because Liriano is on the mound. That way you can put Grichuk, Pham, and Piscotty in the OF and leave the lefties Moss and Adams on the bench.

My prediction for the opening day lineup against Liriano:

Carpenter 3B
Piscotty RF
Holliday 1B
Grichuk LF
Pham CF
Molina C
Gyroko SS
Wong 2B
Wainwright P

The itch is real, is it Sunday yet?

I'll tell ya what, he's looked pretty comfortable there all spring. If adams and moss dont quit striking out every at bat I think we'll see him there a lot, especially against lefties. I haven't watched/listened to all that many games this spring, but from what I have I've been very unimpressed with moss and adams at bats, and very impressed with hollidays 1st base ability

That's great to hear. Holliday at 1st would also make the OF defense much stronger. Plus, Pham would give us more speed on the bases. Also, hopefully it allows Holliday to stay healthy if he's not consistently chasing down fly balls in the OF. We'll see how it goes, but if it's a successful transition that's great work by the coaching staff and I'm sure a ton of hard work from Matt.

I'm taking next week off to watch baseball all week long. I was going to pull the trigger on going to ATL, and staying with my cousin to go to the games. But NOOOOOO, gf said not a chance in hell. Oh well, BASEBALL is back in 4 days!!!

Apparently we aren't allowed to have a shortstop this year.

As for the Holliday discussion. If he can be adequate at 1B that would be huge for this team. I'd prefer to see him move there full time.

I'm excited for baseball. I'm excited to see our guys on opening day. As a side note, a buddy of mine who is a cub fan said this to me..."why are you so excited? Your rival is better than you. You wont win the division and we humiliated you in the playoffs!". My response was simple, "I'm excited BC I love the birds on the bat. They are my guys and I love um - win or lose!". He didn't have much to say after that.

Lol cubs may indeed be better, but there is a lot of pressure on them. The pressure is a lot different when you're the ones being hunted vs. you being the hunter. I'm interested to see how they're gonna do.

They were also incredibly lucky with injuries last year. Youth to their core probably had flame thing to do with that, but they are going to have injuries this year. We'll see how they fight through it.
