Good start yesterday for some Illini alums on the web.com tour in Springfield!

Guthrie, Langley and Hardy are all tied for 9th after shooting 6 under 65s yesterday. Brian Campbell is also in the field. He shot a 1 under 70, tied for 98th.

I was thinking about going this weekend, but the mid 90s weather may deter that thinking!!!

Good luck to all the Illini in Springfield this weekend!!!

Dylan was at even par at Quicken, beating Tiger last I knew. Weak field.

Can you imagine what it must be like for a 20-or-21-year -old to suddenly go pro?

I hate to mention this, but in light of what happened in Maryland yesterday, all comments about golf or any silly thing are so unimportant.

Still, life goes on.

Peoria Illini: that heat and humidity in Peoria and Springfield are even worser than in DeKalb. Man, air-conditioned cave today reading "Sam " by Al Barkow and hoping for end to violence and great weather at Deere. Can I have it both ways? Yes, I think it's possible.

Bad English. Heat and humidity is, not are. Worser was intentional.

No, are is correct. Heat and humidity are.... plural. He is, singular, we are, plural. Of course you could have said 'heat OR humidity is....... :D

I disagree. No matter. Peace. But you missed or ignored the whole point of my post, whatever it was.

Big time congratulations to Dylan Meyer for making the cut today in the QL National in DC!!
But even more important than that, he took the time to give me a big I-N-I to my I-L-L as he left the 5th green today. Go Dylan!!

To be fair, DA Points did not make the cut. He bogied the 5th and as he walked by me he was discussing the situation with his caddie, so I thought the better of it and did not ask him for an I-N-I. I think he had a little more on his mind at that point.

Also, Dylan parred the 5th after missing a great putt for birdie of some length.

But I still say heat-humidity is a factor tomorrow at Quicken. So are heat and humidity!

Not trying to be cute, Desert. I had a senior moment. Have mercy.

And yes, Dylan has made cut in 2 of 3 starts in the big time. Golf Channel even deigned to show him and mention Mike Small and Illinois in the same brief moment.Yes!

I'm having fun following Illini golf, but it's going to be tough to follow Illini football for the next couple (probably more) years.

As always, go Illini!

This is a great, genteel forum. I congratulate all of you for being so civil.

I can be too critical sometimes, although I'm trying to quit. But I also like to praise people - rather do that.

Sitting here watching Quicken on Golf Channel.

I think Terry Gannon is just about the best announcer there is. Low-key, germaine comments, pleasant, versatile.

I looked him up before: Joliet Catholic grad and member of NC State '83 basketball champs led by Coach Valvano. I remember watching that game against Houston.

Just wanted to share this with you - I thought you secretly wanted to know.

Have a great day. STAY COOL!

P.S. I would have no problem letting pros wear shorts on hotter-than-heck days.

I love tradition, but:

Yes, let golfers wear shorts on hellish-hot days. They wouldn't be cut-offs, cargo shorts or Starter shorts. Five hours walking on a sun-baked golf course? No thanks.

If heat index is over 92, shorts are indicated.

Yet another peculiar thought: Why do baseball managers and coaches, even in high school, wear uniforms? Must be a throwback to days when some were player-coaches a la Lou Boudreau (Illini).

Can you picture Lovie on the sideline in full battle dress or an NBA coach in uniform?

Silly.

Dylan in at -3 for the day (-6) and currently tied at 15th. No a bad showing.

Quite a steady showing in his first three big-time starts. Exciting stuff. Got to look up how other Illini are doing in tournaments. Detry was contending in France, I think. Pieters OK.

I love network golf coverage.

CBS still insistantly (tacitly) claims Eldred has a chance despite the fact that he's 8 shots out of the lead. And so, to please their advertisers, CBS has turned Quicken in to the "Tiger Show" once again.

If you think Tiger is gonna win this thing, you better have your head candled.

Switching back to Senior Open.

Or Coach U in an outfit?

I'm a virtual shut-in. Love contacting outside world. Will quit for today. Rod Serling is my mentor.

Here I go again. Should have been insistently, not insistantly.

I'll take a break. Would you believe I have a journalism degree? Know way.

CBS shows Tiger because that's what the viewers want. Have you seen the difference in ratings when Tiger plays? Did you see the group following him all weekend vs everyone else?

Nice Sunday effort for Dylan to finish T17, -6 for the tourney! He now has 92 non-member Fedex Cup points, good enough for 182nd. Last year, 82 points would've been enough to be top 200 and qualify for the Web.com finals. He'll play in the JDC, and hopefully he picks up some more exemptions (or qualifies), but so far he's had a fantastic debut on the Tour!

Scott Langley finished T5 in Springfield to get closer to the #1 money spot. Nick Hardy fell back to T48.

Detry rallied to finish T16 in the France Open, while Pieters finished T31.

Yes, it was hot and humid at the QL National this past week, but there were still a couple of golfers, Ben Crane being one of them, that actually wore long sleeves everyday.

From my vantage point, was able to see Dylan tee off on the fourth hole, and watch him putt out on the fifth hole. He has the Block I on his bag.

Illini golfers that gained some OWGR ranking points this weekend:

Detry's 16th place finish in the French Open jumped him from 226th to 207th in the world.

Pieters got a few points but actually dropped in the OWGR from 73rd to 78th.

Dylan Meyer's T17 in the QL National jumped him up from 821 in the world to 709.

Scott Langley's T5 in Springfield boosts him up to 242nd from 262nd. And he's in great shape to regain his PGA Tour card next season.

Other Illini golfers:

Steve Stricker - 130th
D.A. Points - 456th
Brian Campbell - 700th
Luke Guthrie - 852nd
Charlie Danielson (injured) - 1,272nd
Edoardo Lipparelli - 2,013th
Nick Hardy - 2,013th

If I missed anyone, please let me know. Great to see all these Illini alums out on the various pro tours chasing their dreams!

Hope to see some of them at the John Deere in a couple of weeks!

Dylan is -1 after 9. Leader is -6, 2nd is at -5. So, there is work to be done.

Ooops! Spoke too soon. Dylan finished at -3. Needed to get to -5. So, no tournament fro you! (but I'm sure he just might get to be an alternate?)

Most of the time the alternates come from the PGA members list, not from the qualifier. That tourney already had 7 or 8 alternates already listed for the field.

Probably on to the JD Classic for Dylan next week.

Great list, thanks! Only other guy I could find on the site is Joe Affrunti, who hasn't played in almost 2 years. Anybody know what happened to him?

After this weekend, there's no question that Dylan's best path to the TOUR will be through TOUR events (as opposed to Web.com events). I'm guessing he will either try to get a sponsor exemption or try to qualify for everything left on the schedule (except majors and the last WGC):

July 12-15: JDC - Already has a sponsor exemption
July 19-22: Barbasol Championship (concurrent event to the Open)
July 26-29: RBC Canadian Open
Aug 2-5: Barracuda Championship (concurrent event to WGC Bridgestone)
Aug 16-19: Wyndham Championship

The long-sleeves may be protection against the sun and skin cancer. There are articles about PGA players who've been affected by so much time in the sun.
