I think the two-stroke penalty is an appropriate punishment for what Phil did (I remember John Daly doing something similar at a U.S. Open awhile back). Looks awful, but the temper tantrums by Jon Rahm are much worse, and they don't always carry a penalty.

Dylan finally ran out of steam at the end, with a double on 16 but some good par saves on 17 and 18 to card a 71. Currently T27, I have a feeling he'll crack the top 20 by the end of the afternoon.

In my crazy mind, what Phil did should be a DQ. Man, I'd love it if I could stop a putt while it's rolling past the hole in my rounds with fellow duffers.

They interviewed Zach Johnson after his round of +2 and he said "They've lost the course". And amazingly enough, commentators are saying it was worse in 2004. Maybe USGA should consider allowing the course to be kept in a state that is consistent with live grass?

Regardless, very excited for Dylan. Amazing start to his career

Zach Johnson: sour grapes, same for Mickelson. Do you think Dylan M. is complaining?

Yes. It's the same course for all players.

It wasn't the same today.

The final 10 players, the people who were playing the best, shot +67 today. The guys who went out out in the morning almost all fared better. There was no weather event, the wind was not wild. The USGA just set the course up too close to the edge and it could not sustain the playability that the earlier players got. The USGA themselves said this, not me.

I see your point, but it's tough to prove it was "past the edge". Average in the field was around 75.5, so the last 10 players shot maybe a stroke higher than the average (Fowler probably accounted for the difference by himself). Plus DJ fell apart in the first few holes, when many of the morning guys were still on the course. It's definitely a rough course, but it is the same course for all. It gave the back of the pack a chance to come back, and Berger and Finau took full advantage.

Dylan tees off at 1:29 ET w/ Tyrell Hatton tomorrow, so he'll get to experience these conditions in full. Hopefully he keeps hitting greens like he did today, a top 10 would be massive!

Good point.

I just hope we see Dylan in action today on Fox.

I jokingly said I was placing a $2 bet across the board on Dylan. Now I wish I had.

Also hoping to see Dylan and also maybe a little Illinois credit. Dylan is one month away from being an amateur and so gets no credit so far, while they come back to the ranking amateur regularly. I'm jealous and want the same for Dylan

And it doesn't help that one of the low amateurs is a Buckeye who has received more air time, as far as I know, than Dylan. But good luck to Grimmer.

I think coverage included Brian Campbell at Chambers Bay. TV will always cover low amateur, and that's as it should be. But c'mon: Dylan Meyer is a story!

BTW, Dylan must have received a nice little stipend from Callaway and its putter division, Odyssey. He's also on the payroll of a clothier called Travis Mathew. Sounds like a very lucrative start his pro career - in addition to his winnings at US Open.

Dylan tees off in 3. . .2. . .1!!!

12:41. There's Dylan with a practice putting stroke on first hole; camera was on Englander who putted out. What publicity! I wouldn't have known who the golfer in the background was if I didn't know who he was already.

This has suddenly become just another PGA Tour event, thanks to some pros whining about course conditions and dictating things to USGA, and the sub-mediocre Fox coverage.

It was far more interesting yesterday despite Mickelson's antics. And I still haven't really seen Dylan. But Fox has to kowtow to its advertisers.

What's on TCM?

I think Joe Buck is major bush-league. Likewise Paul Azinger with his use of word "legislate." And the yelling and screaming of some morons in the galleries, bellies full of beer.

Other than these concerns, I have no problems.

I prefer amateur golf.

But Go Dylan!

PGA Professional Championship 3:30 on Golf Channel. Mike Small!

U.S. Open website has a video feed featuring holes 7, 9 and 11, they showed all of Dylan's shots on 7. Looks like he's struggling to find the fairway, after hitting most of them yesterday. At least he hit a couple pars, hopefully he finishes strong.

Should be an interesting finish, course has settled down. Remarkable round so far by Fleetwood.

Now that the USGA has watered the greens and eased up on pin placements. Phooey!

Hate to be Joe Negative, but this Open isn't crowniing a a real champion golfer. Mickey Mouse Open, more like.

I agree that today feels like just another Sunday. And Fox and Joe Buck and the Zinger are no bueno.

Dylan has 2 birdies on back, battling back a little bit

Meyer birdies 18 to finish at +11 for the tournament.

He is currently tied with Stricker and many others for 21st. They could still move into the top twenty.

Great first professional tournament for Dylan Meyer :congrats:

Fantastic job by Dylan!!! I tried to research to see what exemptions he may get by finishing in the top 25 but came up empty. Anyone know?

Thank you, Dylan, for your effort and for prolonging my interest in this baloney. Bologna?
