DYLAN SANK A PUT FOR BIRDIE! Now +6.

Still no mention by Fox that he's an Illini, as far as I inow. He's just another pro.

Make the cut, Dylan.

And then look at the defending champ coming in with a 66 to close at +1!!
Brooks is defending! Look out!

Meyer finished his round at -1 and made the cut!

He's currently tied for 36th

And that will guarantee him his first paycheck. Way to go Dylan!

Stricker barely made the cut as well, so both will play the weekend. Should be interesting - DJ has a sizeable lead, but no lead is comfortable on this course since one bad shot into that thick rough can cost you 2-3 strokes easy. I wouldn't be surprised if the winner finishes above par.

Starts the back nine right on the cut line and shoots -2.

There were more sub par rounds today but still not many, 69 by Meyer was one of the best scores of the day.

Not a bad start to his pro career.

Dylan shoots a 69! Right? Wowee! Go Illini man! Only 10 shots from lead. This is great.

Accuracy, not distance, off the tee, laser irons, great putting will win an Open.

After a terrible start (probably some nervousness), Dylan is 2 under for the last 18 holes he has played. What a start to his pro career!!!!

Dylan has 11:19 tee time, Eastern.
Paired with Chris Naegel, who is ranked 1,081 in the world and recently told his wife he was going to quit playing professionally. He's from the St. Louis area. I predict a small gallery for these two, most of whom are actually waiting for Phil in the next twosome.

Regardless, I'm stoked for Dylan

Dylan at +5 after 5.

Glad to see he's gone out and gotten a real job after freeloading off Illinois taxpayers for 4 years.

Seriously, he's making good money with his apparent Callaway equipment deal. I can't make out what sponsor is on his shirtsleeves.

That special edition staff bag he and Mickelson and other Callaway staff are using retails about $950, according to Callaway website. I'm pretty sure he might just treasure it for a long time.

I only wish Fox would show Dylan and Naegel now and then.

Does anybody know how far Dylan drives the ball?

Dylan birdied the 9th to score a 34 on the front nine (big improvement from his 41 on Thursday). Currently T29 and one of five players under par for the day!

Current stats for the US Open per the website (ranks are out of 67 players that made the cut):

Driving Distance: 285.5 (63rd)
Fairways: 77% (30th)
Greens in Reg: 64% (16th!)
Putts/Hole: 1.71 (36th)

So he's towards the bottom in driving distance, but makes up for it on his approach shots.

Update: He just blasted a 348 yard drive on number 10, so you never know...

Is No. 10 the same hole Justin Thomas drove 441 yards? Must be a downhiller.

No matter, Dylan, just keep hitting accurate irons.

I think the pressure is off now that he's made the cut. Have fun, play smart: a tall order.

Playing with Naegel must be a postitive thing, and vice-versa. Good luck to both.

Boy, Mickelson just pulled a bush-league thing, pretty much unprecedented. Missed a putt, re-putted as ball was moving. Unbelieveable. Withdraw, Phil.

And I was going to say this US Open so far has been unblemished.

And now Fox is back to normal coverage. Curtis Strange seemed somewhat stupefied by Mickelson's behavior.

That was unreal. No telling how far past that would have gone by if he hadn't done that. I am at a loss for words...

Me, too. I think he should be DQed.

And now the apologies by Fox guys.

Sorry , I'm posting too much. But this incident may haunt Mickelson and tarnish his reputation (at least put an asterisk on it.) I wouldn't want to be in his golf shoes for anything.

Let's get back to Dylan. I'm so glad he wasn't paired with Phil for several reasons.

If it's an all-consuming thing for Phil to win a US Open, may I remind him that a greater golfer than he never won an Open: Sam Snead. Lighten up, Phil.

P.S. Snead always regretted not winning US Open, but he carried on, coming in third at what, 1972-73 PGA, something like that, at the age of 60 or so. Correct me, please.

And it's also like Arnold Palmer never winning a PGA. Unthinkable. By all accounts, he was a bit irked by that.

I think the two-stroke penalty is an appropriate punishment for what Phil did (I remember John Daly doing something similar at a U.S. Open awhile back). Looks awful, but the temper tantrums by Jon Rahm are much worse, and they don't always carry a penalty.

Dylan finally ran out of steam at the end, with a double on 16 but some good par saves on 17 and 18 to card a 71. Currently T27, I have a feeling he'll crack the top 20 by the end of the afternoon.

I'm picturing a 45-year old Rory McIlroy still chasing his first green jacket, still haunted from his collapse in 2011.

Wow, everyone's falling apart this afternoon. DJ already +4, Fowler shot a 41 on the front nine, everybody is struggling. Dylan is already up to T19, might even make it to the top 15 before he tees off tomorrow!

They interviewed Zach Johnson after his round of +2 and he said "They've lost the course". And amazingly enough, commentators are saying it was worse in 2004. Maybe USGA should consider allowing the course to be kept in a state that is consistent with live grass?

Regardless, very excited for Dylan. Amazing start to his career
