Great news out of Springfield OH - Dylan Meyer took second in the U.S. Open Sectional, with a 68-68. Since the top 5 qualify, he will be playing at Shinnecock Hills next week!

Stricker's currently T2 in Memphis with a 68-65, he'll be in the U.S. Open field as well. Pieters and Langley failed to qualify.

How did you know Dylan was in the sectional? Thanks for the info.

It appears Armbrust and O'Reilly didn't qualify for Rust-Oleum.

By the way, Web.com Tour will be in Springfield for Lincoln Land Charity Championship starting June 25. I'm sure Illini will be there. Hardy, I think, has received an exemption.

I thought it was a long haul from DeKalb to Silvis, but Peoria's got to be a little farther. Maybe not.

It's well worth the travel time -- a great tournament plus Illini in it, I hope.

It'a about an hour and 20 minutes. Not too bad. Get up early and hit the road.

Illini Day used to be on Fridays, with Iowa Day on Thursday. Illini Day used to really outshine Hawkeye day, so I think they did away with it officially. Friday is still a pretty big Unofficial Illini Day. Lots of orange in the crowd.

Even when I go on Saturday, it's good to wear Illini gear. The former Illini players appreciate it. D.A. Points was incredibly nice to my daughter a few years ago. Fun times.

Just one great thing about Deere, among many : you can park at the racetrack and ride a shuttle to the course. I'm sure they still do that.

Peoria Illini: if you see an old fud in an Illini shirt and cap, about 5'8" and just plain handsome (kidding), just yodel: O-LEO-LEAHY! I'll hear ya.

LOL... I'll post on here if we end up going this summer. Both older boys are working this summer, so it will be probably Sat or Sun. If you see a big, bald dude with 2 taller boys and a cute daughter, shout out Peoria Illini!!!

The U.S. Open website posted their sectional fields a couple days prior. I'm surprised there weren't more Illini this year, it was always great to see guys like Campbell and Hardy compete in the U.S. Open as amateurs. Hopefully we'll have a better showing next year, but I'll be great to see Dylan out there - I don't think he could've picked a bigger stage for his pro debut!

Does anyone have a list of Illinois alums n the tour? I'd like to enter them into my favorites on my pga app.

I have Scott Langley, Thomas Pieters, DA Points and Stricker.

Meyer not showing up yet.

Thanks.

Brian Campbell is on the web.com tour. He just had a top-5 finish last week.

Thomas Detry is playing in Europe.

Luke Guthrie is back on the web.com tour.

Of course, Mike Small is playing on the Champions tour now.

I don't think Coach Small is officially on Champions Tour; he's received an exemption to play in this week's Principal Charity Classic in Des Moines. And then on to Stricker's Am Fam Classic in Madison 6/22.

I started trying to keep up with it a few years back, especially as the Illini pool continues to grow. Here's what I got (let me know if anyone's missing):

Stricker, Points, Pieters - PGA Tour
Pieters, Detry - European Tour (Pieters is members of both)
Langley, Campbell, Guthrie - Web.com (Langley is crushing it, he willl promote to PGA next year)
Stricker, Small - Champions (Strick goes back and forth)
Danielson is still on the Mackenzie tour (I think), hasn't played in a while
Lipparelli shows up on the European Challenge Tour sometimes (including this week)
Meyer and Hardy will play on exemptions this summer as they push for status. Hopefully both play the JDC.
Affrunti and DeForest used to play events, but haven't in a couple years or so.

You'll also see current Illini players during the summer. O'Reilly tried to qualify for one this week. Gio is playing on the challenge tour this week. I recommend looking everyone up on the OWGR website, you can see what events they've played recently.

Nice comprehensive list! I think that's all I know about as well. Starting to grow a good stable of players on the tours. You may see incoming recruit Adrien Dumont de Chassart playing in some European tourneys as well as an amateur.

Illini now have 4 in the top 300 in the world. These are all the Illini golfers with points accumulated for the current OWGR:

67. Pieters
139. Stricker
222. Detry
261. Langley
408. Points
703. Campbell
791. Guthrie
1180. Danielson

Has anyone done "Caddy Club" to support Illini golf?

Great deal: for $100 you get two rounds of golf , one at Stone Creek, the other at a U of I course; invitation to "meet and greet" with team and coaches; newsletter.

Director of Golf Jackie emailed me it'll start again 7/18.

I'll do it: Have clubs, will travel.

Thanks to all for info about Illini and where they're playing this summer. This is the source. Keep it coming.

Watching Golf Channel coverage of European Tour event. Announcer said, pretty much, stay tuned for Rust-Oleum coverage from Illinois where Nick Hardy, all-American, Big 10 champ, will be making his pro debut. Yeah! And this on national electrical television!

All Illini are sub-par so far. Guthrie tees off this afternoon.

PGATour.com posted an article for Hardy's debut:

https://www.pgatour.com/webcom/news/2018/06/06/nick-hardy-rust-oleum-championship-professional-debut.html

Nick is even, probably needs to post a -2 or -3 tomorrow to make the cut. Top 25 will get him into the next Web.com Tour event. All Illini are even or better (Guthrie is still on the course).

Strick is looking good in Memphis, tied for 2nd (not bad after playing 36 holes on Monday in the U.S. Open qualifier). Lipparelli is two off the lead in the Euro Challenge Tour. Hopefully this will be a great weekend across the board!

Also, Dylan got an exemption to the Quicken Loans national in DC:

This is excellent!!! as I will be marshalling that event. Will be positioned on the 5th hole. Stop by and say Hi! I-L-L!! I'll try and sneak in a logo somewhere on my person.

Just received Fighting Illini Men's Golf June Newsletter from Illini golf office via email.

I think all you need to do to get it is to email Jackie, men's golf director, at jszymon@illinois.edu.

I found some more schedule info for Nick and Dylan by doing some random Google searches. Here's what I have so far:

Jun 14-17: U.S. Open (Meyer) - Stricker will compete as well
June 21-24: PGA - Traveler's Championship (Meyer, Hardy)
June 28-July 1: PGA - Quicken Loans National (Meyer)
June 28-July 1: Web.com - Lincoln Land Championship (Hardy)
July 12-15: PGA - John Deere Classic (Hardy)

Those are the exemptions, I'm guessing they attempt to qualify for other events as well. Plenty of other Illini will be playing as well: Pieters will be in The Open, hopefully coach will qualify for another PGA Championship. Should be a fun summer!

Dylan has the very last morning time Thursday, 8:57.
Tees off on the back with old Oregon nemesis Sulman Raza. Not that I expect either player to be bothered by that, just another interesting USGA grouping

It'll be interesting to see how Dylan handles the course. Shinnecock is a beast, I remember 2004 when the pros averaged +9 on the final day. Also Stricker tees of at 1:36.
