I'd wager a good sum on it as well. His team was doing pretty well up until the injuries. They were ranked in the top-10 not that many weeks ago. He lost a star in their leading scorer (Blackmon), a starter in Anunoby, who's out for the year, and has some other banged up guys. I don't think anyone expects them to be the same team. If Blackmon comes back, they could still make the dance.

Yep, also lost a solid player and leader in Colin Hartman before the season started.

You're in. Don't let Kakagoogoo on, make him run along the caboose awhile until he realizes that his Sean Miller imaginary boat ride is... well... imaginary.

Not a boat.

I agree, he could not recruit. Now we have a coach that can apparently recruit but doesn't have a clue on how to coach. No offense except run and shoot.
What makes being an Illinois bb fan so miserable is with Groce there is no lite at the end of the tunnel. He doesn't know how to develops talent, has no clue who should be playing, and if he has an offense it's beyond me.
Regardless of his incoming players, we have to get rid of him.
We have to fork over the money to attract the kind of coach that has high enough status to keep his recruits. That means no more mid-major or (in Groce's case high school) coaches.

Hey!! High school coaches everywhere just took offense.

JG's lack of offensive scheme.... Not many screens, hardly any movement, and no imagination, belongs at the biddy basketball level.

You know, the one where everyone stands around while one player dribbles to much then puts up a wild shot.

People in the media can say whatever they like, I find it hard to agree that a coach is a brilliant hoops mind when his offenses consistently take this many deep 2s, and the coach is content with that (as based on lack of accountability for those shots AND comments to media). That's just ignoring simple analytics.

And he was a math major!

Welcome to the Keatts Hype Train. I think I kicked you out of the captains seat awhile ago, but I need a first mate.

What kind of train has a captain and first mate? Sounds like the Crazy Train.

If we want to go the same route as the football program consideration should be given to Mike Brown, He is the former coach of the Cavaliers and Lakers. he is currently the top assistant to Steve Kerr in San Diego.

The reason he was let go from Cleveland is that he would not let King James control him.

So he's a coach from the NBA. That is his qualification and connection to the job here? Why not name a hundred other NBA assistants and coaches? Brown has never coached in college- never recruited a player in his life. He really has no connection at all to Illinois or college basketball in any way.

It's the Keatts Hype Train, it doesn't abide by regular train rules. The minute you stop and think about things like first mate/co-pilot/ deck hand the train is running you over like UNCW is going to run over opponents to the sweet 16.

Is the Keats Hype Train a steam locomotive? If so, can I be the guy who shovels the coal or perhaps a boiler mechanic?

I think this bracket I put together has most of the names mentioned in this thread.

I'm open to ideas on seeding and substitutions of names. I'm happy to update it.

Keep that clapping, spray tanned creeper as far away from our program as possible. The only reason he has had any type of success is because of the program he is at. IU isn't a blueblood, but they are a good enough program that a mediocre coach can keep them competitive on name and tradition alone.

It is a blueblood.

You don't need experience in recruiting. If Lovie had any it was over twenty years ago and he did a great job this year. Reputation and potential connections open both doors and eyes of the recruit

Please, I'm eating up the hype like Tony ate up people.

Hey, every train needs a Caboose! CHOO CHOO! All aboard! Next stop B1G relevancy!

He got let go because he's not that good of a coach. If it was just because of the latter, he would've been picked up as an HC somewhere instead of guys like Derek Fisher, Kurt Rambis and Earl Watson coaching teams in that timeframe.

I said it before in this thread and will again, the only NBA name that is available (i.e. not currently a HC -- excluding Hoiberg because he would have to be fired) and worth looking at is Monty Williams.
