It's pretty weird that Groce's results are inversely correlated with the talent he has. Hill/Morgan not playing an NCAA Tournament game completely blows my mind. No four-year senior should graduate from the school without at least playing in the tournament. How do you miss it FOUR YEARS IN A ROW??

Hill
Tate
Morgan
Levi Cobb
Rob Judson
Neil Bresnahan

They will be answer to trivia question some day.

I think Groce will be retained through the BTT, except in the event that he finishes the conference season with a record of 4-14 or 5-13. If he only wins another game or two, I suspect he'll be jettisoned before the BTT. I still think we'll win four more conference games, though, fwiw.

Where are those wins coming from? Don't think Rutgers is some pushover. They can legitimately beat the Illini. No easy wins left and that's an indictment on how bad the Illini are.

Doubt it, why would you think so? Maybe one of the assistants to take over temporarily?

After the regular season, before the BTT. Preventative measure. Crazier things have happened than a team getting hot and lucky during a conference tournament.

Is there any chance at all that Scott Drew would vacate Baylor given the ongoing turmoil that surrounds the school?

On the flip side, would we want him, knowing that's where he is coming from?

Considering he built that program from the ashes of Dave Bliss, seems unlikely he'd be phased by what's going on with the football team.

Nah, I think he's gone regardless of BTT craziness. I don't think we have to worry about it anyway, I misspoke with my March 4th comment, honestly. I think he'll coach BTT, it's a difference of what, 3 days?

I'm guessing we'll beat Penn State and Northwestern at home and win two out of @Nebraska, @Iowa, MSU (at home), and @Rutgers. I think we'll see a small surge to finish the year. Won't be enough to make the tournament or save Groce's job, but I think we're playing below our (theoretical) median performance standard and will see some equalization. I'm sure most here disagree. Guess we'll see.

I just checked. Keeping him through the tournament is a difference of 4 days.
Last regular season game Saturday
First tournament game (not at home, by the way) Wednesday.
4 days.
So sad, but I'm feeling pretty confident in this one.

Before the conference play started, I posted the 14 teams' KenPom rankings at various times in the year. Now that January has come and gone, I've added another column.
Two guys looking good, Collins and Pitino. Two guys looking bad; Matta and Izzo. The rest don't show enough movement in my opinion to merit a comment

It seems like last year Dakich and the other Big10 announcers went out of their way to defend Groce and say it wasn't his fault. At this point even they have quit defending him.

ND is private, so it's a little harder to determine the exact number because it doesn't have to be disclosed iirc, so it could be off and probably is

He also get bonuses which get him up to about 1.75 so I'd give him another 750,000 or so and see if that does it.

Thanks guys, those both make sense. I think he's on the low side at $1.75 as well, but at least that amount makes sense. $992k made no sense.

Who do you think has the best chance of keeping our recruits and landing Mark Smith?

We need to pony up some dough to a good established coach. Not sure who that is now but we need to spend some cash. I do not want another MAC level coach.

Among candidates we've discussed regularly in this thread, Archie Miller and Cuonzo Martin probably. Both are relatively big names/rising stars, good recruiters - they'd lend instant credibility. I think Keatts would have a shot. Other than that, hard to say. I'm guessing Miller and Martin would hold onto everyone or only lose one while also adding Smith and/or another talented prospect.

Trent Frazier tweeted that Groce isn't going anywhere. I feel bad for him but is he keeping a close eye on how this team is playing? Yikes.
